    How do you let your Roman units throw their pila when charging like in Vanilla?

    You can't as it is why AI is soo bad in base game. Not to mention throw itself bugs out often anyway. It was one of more important stuff I discovered and fixed in DeI.

    That feature has been changed such that infantry with precurser missiles functions like regular missile infantry. Because of this the battle AI will manage their troops better against human player.

    I don't think I understand completely what you are trying to say. You mean you removed that behavior so the AI gets better? That's sad since this is not very realistic I think. I try to record nice videos with realistic tactics etc, but is not do-able if you have to micro manage charge+pila throw actions this of course.

    Isn't there a mod undoing what you tried to fix?

    It is very realistic. Your soldiers will auto throw, you never need to use throw pilum ability for them to throw. Their defualt attack is ranged and if any enemy gets into their range while they are standing, they will also throw their pilum. If anything, what I did requires less micro as they will just use pilum like ranged infantry does.

    Without that fix, AI units do zombie rush into players lines without even looking at flanks and they go into melee before their ranged units are able to do more than one-two volleys. Not to mention that they dont keep formation due to that and dont skirmish at all.

    There are no benefits of that throw pilum on charge compared to it and especially no realism in that. I can elaborate more if what I wrote is not clear.

    But how do you throw your pilas just before you charge (in melee) with your complete first line of hastati for instance? It needs quite some micro-ing to do that now.

    Just leave their fire at will, make all line stop, they will auto target units in front of them or just give them specific attack order to engage specific units with ranged attack, then charge as usual. Trust me on this, the way it is now gives you much better AI and less glitchy ranged attack with much more options. With the way I made it work, you can order ranged attack that does not auto trigger charge but still allows you to follow through with charge. I have also added a formation distruption to pila so for example if you see phalanx, you can walk close to it, do proper throw (as pila on charge dont work properly most of the time), see phalanx ranks get disrupted and then order charge before they can close gaps.
