Default Editing Disciplined Formation spacing for Romans in PFM

    Hey guys,

Currently doing a Rome campaign and I've been trying to give the disciplined formation ago and it seems utterly useless because of the spacing it requires you to use. Enemy units just seem to wrap around your line and it makes it basically impossible to play triplex aces. I've also noticed they will not throw pila at all in this formation.

Pretty much better off to just leave them with out a formation, although then they attack with every man for themselves and that breaks the immersion... you guys know of anyway to edit the formations spacing? Been looking in PFM but cannot find the spacing settings for the disciplined formation in the DEI_Pack1, can only find the spacing's for the unit and not the formation.

    Thanks in advance,
    Anonter

From my understanding you can't edit formation behaviors sadly, I could be wrong though!

You can't edit Disciplined Formation spacing as it is hardcoded by the game. Also there are no infantry formations outside of wedge (which is broken for infantry anyway) that allow them to have ranged attacks.

Disciplined formation is often reported as OP since you need to use it properly, in which case it gets very strong. But like I said, it has to be used in specific cases like when you want to hold for long or close a narrow gap. For example because of how strong it is, some people banned it from MP battles on our discord channel.

BTW for me it were not immersion breaking at all to play with Romans in open formation, at least in mid republican times. The Romans fought as individual warriors with shield and sword and thus had a lot more space between the soldiers than the Greeks for example.

The disciplined formation is really only a tactical formation used to pin down the enemy, whilst more mobile troops (light infantry and cavalry) flank round and engage an enemy from rear or sides, Not to be used in a (Triplex Axies) it is very good at blocking in terrain features. Or holding up a greater number of the enemy whilst buying you time... Don't use this in default formations (Triplex Axies)
