"Each prince shall step forward and vote by informing me of their choice. There will be no purchasing of votes or other bribery, on pain of religious censure by the Holy Father himself."

Stephen declared, fighting to be heard amongst the squabbling.

"If there is no majority agreement today, then we shall try again until we are successful. Come forth, my lords."

    ---

Eustace comes forward and, as expected, casts his vote in favour of Godfrey.

    ---

Gaston casts his vote in favour of Raymond.

Godfrey of Bouillon stood silent. The only Prince that had not yet voted. He gazed through the room. Wondering about the mettle of each of these men in attendance. They were all though soldiers he thought. Tough enough to carve a kingdom in this hostile land? He would find out soon enough.

    Godfrey votes for Godfrey.

After the clamour of the vote lasted for several hours, the nobles assemble once again as Father Stephen once again rises to the elevated podium.

"It seems that the Lord Godfrey has been chosen to lead! Come forth, my lord, and swear an oath to defend this land on behalf of the Lord God and the Holy Father in Rome!"

Godfrey stepped forward, heavy knee's. Chosen to lead Jerusalem. Would he be up to the task? He wondered. The task at hand could be seen as a burden. Surrounded by enemies and a thousand leagues from home. No easy it would not be he told himself. Three years since they had marched out and here he walked, ever closer to Father Stephen.

"I will lead as god will it, father Stephen, as god wills it"
he said to the clergy man as he came before him. Now Godfrey would stand and wait, to see what oath he must take to rule these men.

Godfrey steps forth, and the oath is sworn: to defend the city of Christ in the name of God and the Pope in Rome, on whose behalf the Lord Godfrey shields these lands from the infidel. All stood in silence as the Duke of Lotharingia, now Lord of Jerusalem, took his vows. He would be the first to lead them into the Church of the Sepulchre to officially fulfil their Crusading pledge, for their journey was not complete until they had prayed at the holiest spot in all Christendom. With that concluded, Godfrey and the nobles were free to do as they wished, though naturally they would be troubled by reports of an Egyptian army gathering at Ascalon to retake what was recently lost to the armies of Christendom.

Raymond's, and most of those from the Occitan party, were a smaller voice of cheers and applause for when Godefroy won the election. This meant that Toulouse would have to forfeit the Tower of David, given the overwhelming support toward the now Defender of Jerusalem. Tripoli awaited him, in the North now, and that county would need his presence soon enough. For now, the Count would linger.
