Default Former French President Jacques Chirac Dies at the Age of 86

    BBC article.

As the rule dictates for politicians, his death sparked a variety of reactions, mostly negative, in what concerns the youth of the country. He was notorious for his flexibility in politics, as well as his corruption scandals, which surfaced late in his retirement and which really tainted his reputation. He was even implicated in the Clearstream affair, whose failure costed Dominique de Villepin the opportunity to gain the Presidency. Personally, my judgement is a bit less harsh, as I evaluate him as the second most serious President of the Fifth Republic (those of the Fourth or the Third didn't hold any substantial power, anyway, so that essentially leaves only Napoleon III of the Second Republic), after General de Gaulle, of course. He was certainly more professional and mature than his successors, Nicolas Sarkozy, François Hollande and even Emmanuel Macron, while his fiscal and economic policies may have not offered spectacular results, but they did manage to somewhat reinforce the stability of the French society, in contrast to the measures taken by, for instance, the much more famous Iron Lady. He was also praised for his opposition to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, a position many imitated following the bloody debacle of the occupation, but which was also severely criticised, during the bald-eagle dominated atmosphere of the early 21st century.

Overall, Jacques Chirac was certainly not a flawless leader, but he maintained the prestige of the Fifth Republic. A not particularly great goal, which however neither Sarkozy nor Hollande can truly boast of achieving. So, what's your opinion about Chirac? Did he really contribute to safeguard France's prosperity, social cohesion and geopolitical influence or will his 12-years term be remembered as insignificant and insufficient?

For me as German Francois Mitterand was more remarkable because of his deepening of the french-german friendship, especially Verdun in 1986.

But of course Chirac was still better than the greedy, corrupt Sarkozy or the "pale" Hollande ("Who's that?").

Chirac's presidential legacy is limited. A formidable demagogue, he said:"Je vous surprendrai par ma démagogie"

    For me, Mitterrand,obviously
Craxi, Soares, Gonzalez, Mitterand- southern socialist leaders.

Well I really doubt that his association with Benito Craxi truly speaks to Mitterrand's favour, to be honest. As for his foreign policy, his tenure had been irrevocably marked by the controversies surrounding the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior ship and the role of Operation Turquoise in the Rwandan genocide. In my opinion, François Mitterrand, unlike Jacques Chirac, pursued some rather questionable policies in the domestic (protection of terrorists, wiretapping, corruption) and international front, despite building a misleading and superficial profile as a generous and progressive reformer. The quartetto of socialists certainly looks joyful, but I personally prefer the Margaret Thatcher-Giulio Andreotti couple:

We all have different opinions and that's ok.

For example. Days before he died in 2003, Thatcher biographer Hugo Young wrote an epitaph for the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher left a dark legacy that has still not disappeared

Dispelling the Thatcher myths | Red Pepper

...It’s said that Thatcher made the British people richer. She didn’t. In 1979 the poorest fifth of the population accounted for around 10 percent of after-tax income. By 1989 their share had fallen to 7 percent. Over the same period, the amount of income taken by the richest fifth rose from 37 percent to 43 percent. The rich got richer; the poor got poorer. It’s said that Thatcher restructured the economy and made British capitalism competitive. She didn’t restructure anything. Restructuring would have required a plan, which was anathema to her. Instead, she simply destroyed. Between 1980 and 1983, capacity in British industry fell by 24 percent. Unemployment shot up, eventually topping 3 million. Thatcher effectively shut down British manufacturing, much of it forever. In its place, she turned to the banks and the City, making their wildest dreams come true with the financial ‘Big Bang’. We know how that ended

Seems like a typical Western baizuo politician of post-Cold War era. He wasn't really as bad as those that succeeded him, and he did oppose the less sane pro-war side of globalist liberal democracies, but other then that he wasn't really remarkable in any other way.

The Rainbow Warrior ship was attacked in July 1985, while François Mitterrand was President of France. Jacques Chirac didn't hold any government position then, apart from being Mayor of Paris, and was only appointed as Prime-Minister (an office much less powerful than that of Mitterrand, according to the constitutional amendment of the Fifth Republic) one year later, in March 1986.

When last did we know of a French president of the fifth republic of the French revolution having more than one single woman at his side at any one single moment during his term in office. Simply stated; Enough said.

Thankfully for Macron, his campaign did not pander to those endorsing ageism and sexism, so neither did age of his wife neither triggered any potential voters nor did it prevent him from casually defeating his far-right opponent, despite the predictions of the polls.

That's unjust as well. It's the fault of the Algerians that France lost access to the Sahara. Because of their negative predisposition towards the Empire, France was forced to use her Polynesian archipelagos for her nuclear tests. Very unfortunate.

    ...
This. Macron is simply self confident enough not to need some young, only good looking women at his site to push his mental stable genius ego.

Not like other rotten lust old men, where everybody knows their granddaughter women love only their money.

Macron courageously defended his banker owners' interests against the evil opponent who represented interests of French people. Fair to point out that statistically speaking majority of healthy men prefer women who are in their early 20s, while for some reason Western liberal elites primarily consist of pedos, rapey weirdos and other types of deviants, its almost like those types are easier to control.
