firstly you wont get 1900x1200 on a 17" screen - itll be probably 1280x1024
2Gb ram is ok as its not going to be overclocked (laptop)
the HDD spin speed is low - most are 5400RPM or 7200RPM (even for laptops - mines a 7200)
the rest of it looks ok

Notice where he says WUXGA? It stands for Wide Ultra eXtended Graphics Array and does, in fact, have a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.
It's not common to see them in 17" format, except as a laptop display, which this obviously is.

Looking at the HDD spindle speed, it is pretty low but you'll notice this more when saving and loading the game or when progressing between levels or game turns, rather than in the heat of battle, where the CPU and RAM will come into play.

As far as Vista's concerned, it hasn't matured enough for me to bother with it yet but I'm pretty sure the OEMs are bundling the upgrade for free at the moment but still installing XP for you in the meantime, so if this is the case for this package, go for it but save upgrading until about 6 months to a year away, depending on the restrictions of the deal they're offering you.

thx a lot, i guess 1280x1024 is enough for me, but good to know about the HDD Spin. does it make a huge differnce in performance?

what do you think about the graphic card ? is it one of the better ones ?

Graphics card definetely is a good one for a laptop, nice for gaming.
But what about the processor? Although I think it can't be bad in a PC like that..

That laptop spec is fine... and with the Conroe E6300, it makes it even better.

I wouldn't worry about the hard drive speed because all a lower spin speed means is that your read & write times will be slower. Unless you're going to be moving huge files about, you probably won't notice any difference between 7200 and 5400RPM.

what is huge for you ? the biggest are going to be movies with about 500 mb. will there be a sincere differnce ?

    what is the Conroe E6300?

thx everybody for help? another question, would you wait until vista is released ? at dell they are offering an upgrade package as well, is that fair enough ?

Alight, here's the thing, if I want to go somewhere and take a movie with me, I'll transfer it off of an external drive (7200RPM) onto my laptop drive (5400RPM). A 700 MB movie might take about 60 seconds to just over a minute transfer onto or off of an external (depending on what else I am doing), where as if my laptop drive was 7200RPM it'd probably take nicely under a minute. It's only when I am shifting huge files of size 3 GB or more that I think I could do with faster system HDD... but apart from that, you barely notice the difference.

Well I misread your post. It's actually the Conroe E6400... basically it's another name for the Core 2 Duo's and it's easer to write

Vista doesn't look too promising. All you get is a new theme, some eye candy and 3D effects. The OS is slower in every area than XP... runs games at slower frame rates, runs applications slower due to larger overhead, and generally sucks up more resources than XP. XP works, and works well. why change when you don't need to.. especially when the upgrade sounds more like a downgrade.
