Thread: Cavalery dont charge

    Icon9 Cavalery dont charge

    Hi,
Im not feel good with looking on my horseman starting a battle frontal attack just straight into the enemy - they dont charge with spears and lances but just run to the enemy and use swords or sabers without greatly devastaing them, just go to the regular fight for example early winged husars (poland)
    Why ?!

It depends or something, weather? dunno early period?

Hi, fate! I don't know the details (the battle settings were made long time ago in first versions), but the charge was cutted down. Try to give the cavalry normal acceleration (it's means distance) and do not give additional commands after starting the movement.

Repeating of orders might be received like the new order, I think. But I'm not the specialist in this aspect and may be wrong.
And the man who made those setings is out of our modding team now with high probability.

Anyway, huge size of units is not recommended, as I know, in any mod for MTW2 - problems with reposition, problems with movements on settlement walls and etc.

I got you fam. The problem is very easy to fix. You have to go to your OiM2 data folder and find your export_descr_units.txt file. You will need notepad++ to edit the file (google is your friend).

Open the file with notepad++, then go to the winged Hussars (ctrl+f winged_hussars)

    This is what you have;

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    type winged_hussars
    dictionary winged_hussars ; Polish_Knights2
    category cavalry
    class heavy
    voice_type Heavy
    banner faction main_cavalry
    banner holy crusade_cavalry
    soldier gusar_n, 32, 0, 1
    mount heavy horse
    mount_effect elephant -4, camel -4
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, hardy, can_withdraw, can_formed_charge, knight
    formation 2, 4.4, 3, 6, 2, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 8, 12, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_blade, piercing, spear, 25, 1
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 7, 6, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_blade, piercing, sword, 25, 1
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 12, 12, 0, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 6
    stat_ground 0, -2, -4, -2
    stat_mental 12, disciplined, trained
    stat_charge_dist 150
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 1000, 400, 130, 100, 1000, 4, 210
    armour_ug_levels 0
    armour_ug_models gusar_n
    ownership poland, slave
    era 1 poland
    era 2 poland

Edit the numerical value in red (stat_charge_dist 150) from 150 to 20. If you wanna go all out, I'd edit all heavy cav to 20 and all light cavalry to 15 (that's what I'm doing). Charge distance of 150 is absurd and breaks the game, makes your units unwieldy. Playing on huge settings doesn't break the game, it's fine. The inherent issues with units can mostly be fixed via the export_descr_units file. Hope this helps, enjoy

I also get a feeling you may be Polish (your PL location gave it away) I'm in the middle of translating the immediate Polish-Lithuanian cities to Polish, it's more immersive, as well as the names of the Polish characters (i.e. Zygmunt instead of Sigismund & Stanisław instead of Stanislaus) in case you're interested.
