For the first time since 2007 longer-dated US and UK bonds are traded in lower rates compared to shorter ones. There are many bleak elements out there. From Brexit, to the German slowdon, to the tariff war with China, to the stock-bubble in Wall Street. If a global recession hits again we will see many dramatic events, unfortunatelly

Are there many indicators that are concerning? Certainly, but repeatedly economists have been unable to time and predict the scale of recessions with a degree of reasonable accuracy. We shouldn't be trying to time recessions, we should be preparing for them. Currently, the interest rate is very low, this limits our monetary system toolkit to deal with recessions. You can't drop the interest rates, if the interests rates are already very close to zero.

Indeed I think the puny regulatory measures Obama managed to put in have been stripped away again, so the US is poised to flop.

I think every US president since Reagan has been rolling back the sensible protections brought in after 1929 to prevent another global depression. There's been a few moments of sanity but it was too tempting for say Clinton to take the leash off and let the markets run so everybody got rich for a while.

Bush Jnr may have been an idiot but he wasn't solely to blame for 2007, he was just the dufus holding the package when it exploded. His wasteful military adventurism and risky economic blundering compounded things for sure. His father inherited Reagan's recession, but managed to get the blame too.

US politics is fairly insane. A few rich people get to rape kids and rob the public purse, and everyone else pays.
