Thread: Marching troops do not hold formation

Default Marching troops do not hold formation

After re-install of RTW/RSIII (new Computer) - the troops do not hold assigned formation while marching towards the enemy.
Is there any solution? Searched but could not find any resolution to the problem.

How many units? Are those in one Group? How long is the distance to march? Especially Troops in Shieldwall tend to lack behind....

I always see those problems as a extra layer of realism :-)

@Fridericus Rex I think you will find that much of this is down to the base game being so old and not as stable as used to be, you will notice sometimes that units(especially pikes) split into 2 sections or fragment slightly with several troops playing catch up with the rest of the unit, it's the same with routers, more often these days how difficult it is to run them down with units being strung out and stragglers falling behind your chasing unit

@Morifea why would you march with a unit in shieldwall? that would tire them out very quickly surely

Are you sure you're using the correct formations for your exe?

    Hello All,
I am using the suitable "Routine Grouping" for both, Player and Computer, in the Preference File. There groupings at the beginning of the battle set by the computer were not changed. Marching distance is at times long. They all line up in a long single line.

I also noticed, that at starting the game two old starting pictures from the original TW game appear (the fingers and the marching Carthaginians) before RS III starts. I do not know whether the download files have been changed. After two downloads it is the same.
Other wise the game looks OK.

@Fridericus Rex attached is 4 formations as they should look, you can only use 3 for the AI but all 4 for the player., remember to assign the chosen formation to the appropriate .exe in Edit RSIII preferences > RS II parameters.

    1) Athenogoras 2) Darth 3) RTR 4) Sinuhet

Saul, no problem - the exe. is properly assigned. I never touch the AI's formation and use the formation set by the game, and they seem to have no problems. It's my units running to become one straight line. By the time I rearrange the units the enemy is upon us and it becomes difficult to exercise a proper strategy. Very annoying! Who ever uploaded the RSIII must have had some personal changes in the game. My Previous downloads, years ago, were all OK.
