From my experience in Bellum Crucis, I guess that random crash in battle you guys mentioned is caused by ReallyBadAI.
While the script in ReallyBadAI is not bugged at all, in some strange reason it will cause CTD.
I think that you can try this in the cfg:

Though the draw back is that the mod takes a lot of time when starting(only starting in splash screen), in my case, I has not experienced in-battle random CTD after this change.

Thank you for this great mod. In the past I have test many other mods, but this mod is one of the best.
Currently I am playing as Kievan Rus on very hard campaign and battle difficulty. This campaign is until now very entartaining. I am on war with 6 nations, almost with my all neighbors. They refuse to peace with me.
Turn number is 68. So far I dont had any crashes and I am very happy so.

Here is a screenshot with revealed map. Khwarazmian Empire and Caliphate of Baghdad are in a interesting war. Both nations are divided.

here is the TVB 3.3 Dev version 5
This could be the last dev version before the official release, as everything feels really good now. I think there will be just some minor changes now.
Made some minor changes, fixed a ctd, fixed some bugs and gunpowder got some love. All gunpowder units are now nerfed but back to full strenght of 120 men instead of 60. The Serpentine has now grape shot, and all cannons have got 1 piece of artillery more. It includes my latest ongoing hre campaign from the start ca. 40 saves in total. If you pick the last one you are at the beginning of receiving some tough love from the mongols

I am now on my personal project of making a submod of Bellum Crucis, and I really like the map textures of Total Vanilla Beyond.
Besides, I am interested in lots of banner textures in your mod too so maybe I will use it.
By the way, I have imported the debt script as well, which is exactly the simple and effective stuff that I want.
May I use your works if I release it someday? (or the day never comes....) Of course I will give the credit to Total Vanilla Beyond and you.

@4zumi I completely understand that the archers only have the poison effect as the rotten cows.. but that just made me picture a row of archers nocking their arrows and then they fire huge rotten cow carcasses from their bows XD

A small word of warning, because I ran into the issue: The map textures seem to have some limit. I could not add any more without causing a crash. I have not investigated further, but just for your information if you experience something like that.

Haha, in my first test they had the ground effect of the cow carcass. That was quiet a literal mess. 120 exploding cow carcasses on impact XD
