Default Turkey opens its borders for refugees to go to Europe.

After the late bombardment by the syrian airforce in Idlip that costed atleast 37 Turkish dead and more than 70 wounded today Turkey announced that no longer keep the Tukey-EU agreement and give busses from sysria to Thrace and Smyrna to refugees to cross the Bulgarian and Greek Borders. Greece announce few minutes ago that every new refugee that will arrive in Greece will take legitimate travel documents to travel to any country of EU because so far the rest of EU countries denied to forfill the terms of the refugees agreemnt issolating Greece and Italy with all refugees. Now EU has a delima. To brake into pieces under the extortion of Erdogan or punish him with full empargo of weapons and primary resausrces bringiung to the knees the Turkish economy untill Turkey keeps its side of the burgen. Hungary , Austria and Polland announcerd that they will take no refugees. That will have as a result of Greece's Veto in every EU programme consirning those countries.

Since Turkey unilaterally cancelled the deal with the Eu, it should also have its trade deal unilaterally cancelled. Can't do business with that pariah.
Also nice that it throws a tantrum for failing in a war it started, and expecting help when the rest of nato spoke against the invasion of Syria.

Btw, does Turkey do any screening at all for coronavirus? It may be stuck in 1920, but the virus effect will force different measures in border control now.

The EU should allow individual countries to close their borders if this keeps happening.

Greece should just close its borders, that should be easy enough.

As far as Hungary, Poland, and Austria, refugees don't really want to go there anyway. It'd be more cost effective for them to just bus refugees through to Germany.

If they’re refugees why don’t they want to live in Austria or Hungary?

Edit: Anyone remember when some people advocated Turkey joining the EU. What a joke.

Same reason Eritreans don't want to live in Latvia I assume:

Mekharena, an Eritrean, came to Latvia from Italy a year ago. Reaching Europe was an odyssey - he came via Uganda, Ethiopia, Israel and Egypt.

He only learnt he was going to Latvia a day before his flight. He was not allowed to choose the destination himself, and was not happy about it.

"There are lots of Eritreans everywhere in Europe. They talk to one another. We all know that in Germany they give you an apartment and €400 (£350; $450) pocket money. But in Latvia they don't give us anything - just €139 a month," he told BBC Russian.

    Its not that simple.
According to sea law any one that is shipwrecked the nation that rules those waters the shipwreck happened is obliged to rescue them.
According to hundreds of refugees Turks give plastic boats to refugees and since they cross the naval borders of greece they sink their boat blackmailing a refuge.
Hungary , Polland and the Baltic countries needed -among others- the clearence of Greece to enter EU. In return all of them refuge to obey the EU law and take the percentance of refugees that is for them blocking them in Greece. That is why Greece seriusly considers to block any finansial programme to those countries risking a "war of veto votes". EU will brake to pieces after such a development. Germany already took 2 milion refugees and declaired that needs no others calling the rest of EU members to honor their signatures in Dublin degree! Italy and Greece can not be the only victims of the refugee affect and others will take money and sleep in their safe! After all, ISIL members came though Tyrkey to Syria from Belgium, France, Germany, Norway etc..Also Germany , Holland and others gave Turkey the needed weapons to arm ISIL despite the fact that Turkey said clearly that those weapons will be used agaunst two EU members as well! Germany and Spain broke the latest embargo agreement against Turkey for Turkey's ilegal oil search in Cyprus's waters. That is not an EU!

Well to be honest, I was actually thinking 13,676 kilometers of coastline alone might pose a bit of a challenge.

Its a way to force Europe's hand. Turkey has complained about the influx of refugees from the current offensive in Idlib for a while now. So no they aren't going to stop them as they think no one is trying to help them.

Funny you mention that, if Turkey had upheld the Astana agreement with Russia then this Idlib offensive would have not happened, and thus no extra refugees would go to Turkey.

Funny enough neither side ever followed the agreement. It was doomed from the start.

Im not really familiar with Greek laws or with the Law of the sea but I assume what you described is a crime, what is the punishment for doing that?

If these countries would take those migrants in, those migrant (because of Schengen) would simply move to France, Germany, Sweden etc. What you are asking is to move the migrants from Greece to Germany, with extra steps.

Anyway, I wouldnt be surprised if this would turn out to be another attempt from Erdogan to blackmail the EU for even more money again...

If the UK does anything militarily with regard to Syria, it'll be as an ally of the US. Though I don't see much prospect of that happening any time soon.

How does punishing Turkey by destroying its economy will help them buckle and continue to house millions of refugees by itself with an economy that is no longer capable of housing them?

It's actually Greece that is on tape piercing refugee boats to sink them as they try to cross the sea.

People complain about Turkey's presence in Syria in the other thread, then come here and complain about this. It seems like the right thing to do for us is to let the Assad kick out the remainder of dissidents by taking the last of the holdouts, and strictly contain them within our own borders, any move that's slightly in our favor makes us the bad guy.

Turkey was the primary suporter of ISIS state by allowing iterrorists reach Syria in exchange of ilegal oil!

World did not ruin Turkish economy . Erdogan did by promoting funds to military factories to serve his neo ottoman visions instead of promoting a better life for his subjects. Remember that Hitler did exactly the same thing between 1934-1940.

Assad no matter how bad ruler he may be is a ruler of HIS COUNTRY. With the same prospective of yours those that tried to depose Erdogan that turkish people voted and ellected were right! Or better if USA does not like Erdagian has the right to invade Turkey. Is this your argument? Also let me remind you that the region north/west of Idlip that includes Alexadreta port was Syrian and Turkey invaded and took with war! So Turkey tries to brake Syria in to pieces , legitimate ISIS but complained against the Israely and US plans for a Kurdistan? Two standrds in similar situations? Your Defence minister talks about Turkey's blue homeland. If Greeks will claim its homeland Turkey must go back to Mongolia side by side of the Atlay mauntain. You see each reatoric has its own counter arguments.

Ah really. So refugees are an economic burden, not a blessing.

Assad is not the elected president of Syria, his rule is as legitimate as the rule of any other generic middle eastern dictator, he has no moral to ground to complain about anything, he IS the invader for millions of Syrians he turned into refugees.

AKP's policy on Syria was wrong from the beginning, but neutrality would not stop the misery and refugee flow, Syrian people would still suffer, Turkey would still have the refugee burden on its shoulders, an involvement was necessary, but it could be done in different ways, under different circumstances.
