    Default Back to Roma Surrectum

    Hello All,
It feels good to be back on the forum.
    How is the mod ?
It has been a few years since I been active here but I have returned.

I have a lot of catching up to do

I too would like to know. I tried playing rome 2 and atilla and the game engine is just not built for melee combat, especially cav, so I'm back to rome 1 and I heard this is the best mod especially if you want to play as rome. Is that still true? I used to play SPQR and IB back in the day.

For me - still - (and I've now been playing DeI-modded R2 for a while now) - the battles here with v2.6 are the best I've known since table-top days.

Hows it going, im glad you all still roaming these forums.

Well I mean Rome2 was really really a bad game for me.

Sadly Rome 1 has not aged well... While I like the mod itself, the game is too ugly and too choppy to tolerate. The greatest issue for me is the way UI and 2d art looks on modern screen resolutions. Can't stand that stretched mess.

I too recently came back to RS after a prolonged absence.

Unlike some of you, I'm not returning from modern games. I've had the same laptop for 10 years now and I'm too stingy to make an investment on a updated computer/laptop.

That said, RSIII is more than enough for me. After all, are there any other mods out there that allow you to collect roman eagles?

    There is none Grimbold,
@ur-Lord Tedric - get that computer out man, install RS3 and start enjoying.
I just love playing this mod as much as you all do.
Should we make a new "Post your Empires" thread (2019) ? LOL
Since we getting the "band" back together here in this thread....

Not entirely sure if there are many of these 'old' players around other than Alavaria.

OT: Is it me or the quoting option is not working?

It is not just the quoting.
If you try to edit a post, the site times out.
I believe server maintenance is being done to the site.....

    Will do,
    Question for you

How can I share a picture on a post?
The old way of doing it, appears to not be working.

I'm trying to add an image here but the site keeps having issues.
I'm hoping the server overload ends soon.

Still playing (and lurking this forum). There are no other games that can match RSIII RTS wise and I always return to it.

@tungri_centurio I'm still playing RS(imo the best mod for Rome 1) and will be starting another 1-turn Let's Play fairly soon, probably either as Gallaeci or Dacia

Sadly, I agree. I'd add that the BAI is also breaking immersion for me. I think that even Joar in the Invasio Barbarorum is not able to overcome this shortcoming.
What surprises me is that the Medieval 2 engine didn't age so much - have a look at this video, I find it really nice even in HD. I don't think the modern graphics in Attila or Thrones of Britannia is much better - I feel it to be different, but not much better.

If you want to play a historical mod in the medieval setting the best are:
Stainless Steel Historical Improvement Project and Broken Crescent.
Recently, Tsardoms and TGC look also very good. Read my opinions on the other mods here.

Reviews of the mods (all made in 2018): SSHIP, Wrath of the Norsemen, Broken Crescent.
Follow home rules for playing a game without exploiting the M2TW engine deficiencies.
Hints for Medieval 2 moders: forts, merchants, AT-NGB bug, trade fleets.
Thrones of Britannia: review, opinion on the battles, ideas for modding. Shieldwall is promising!
Dominant strategy in Rome2, Attila, ToB and Troy: “Sniping groups of armies”. Still there, alas!
