Default Sea Kings and Welsh Kingdoms Army Preview

In this preview we are revealing the unit roster for the Sea King and Welsh Army factions. When it comes to design we decided to go with more of a class system that better reflects the social structure of the period rather then unit upgrades where there really isn't much of a difference. That said, going with a social class based structure allows us to include much more detail into a unit so they have more character. I understand this may sound like a downgrade to some, but in the end we feel it is a better system to represent the period and additionally you will have more units in the end to use overall.

    Sea Kings:

    Generals:
    Norronir Hirdmenn - Companion Swordband
Norronir Huskarlar - Late bodyguard Huscarls

    Spears:
    Thrall Spearband - Levy spears
    Karl Spearband - Warrior spears
Nordmenn Vikingar - Warrior spears (Sudreyar only)
    Hirdmenn Spearband - Household elites

    Swords:
    Drengir Warband - Levy Swords
    Rekkar Swordband - Young nobles
    Hirdmenn Swordband - Nobles
Austmenn Saekonungr - Hero and retinue (Dyflin only)

    Axes:
    Holumenn - Longship's crew
    Karl Axeband - Warrior Axes
    Nordmenn Langoxar - Shock Infantry
Austmenn Vikingar - Warrior Axes (Dyflin only, Irish influence)
    Hirdmenn Axeband - Dane Axes
Ulfhednar - Wolkskins, Odin's dedicated warriors
Nordmenn Saekonungr - Hero and retinue (Sudreyar only)

    Archers:
    Veidrmenn - Hunters
    Langbogamenn - Bowmen
Bogadrengir - Mailed Archers (Sudreyar only)

    Skirmishers:
    Vestmenn Ceithrenn - Levy Skirmishers

    Cavalry:
    Nordmenn Ridari - Mounted scouts
Vestmenn Horse Boys - Mounted raiders (Dylfin only)

    Artillery:
    Catapult

Some units will also have special abilities attached to them to make them actually useful to have in an army, for example scouts will give a boost to line of sight and campaign movement. Hunters will provide a boost to supplies so they will be useful to have in an army especially in enemy territory. So as you can see units will play more of an important role and you will have more versatility with a balanced build.

Two more things worth noticing - 2 of the Norse units previewed here have some very unique things about them.
*Ulfhedinn have white face paint, and some of them are tattooed on their bodies.
*The Sae Konungr has a face tattoo
Spoiler for Sae Konungr tattoo close-up

This preview is most likely the last one before the long-awaited public version of Shieldwall, so stay tuned for upcoming updates on our discord

This preview looks amazing, I am especially excited by the roman influences on the welsh units, those are a great way to help differentiate the welsh factions.

I really like the idea of Hero Units. I assume it's based on Shogun 2's Hero units, the idea that yeah they are good but they are mainly meant to support your other troops where they will really shine. Will they be similarly restricted or can you have more than one?

They will be restricted but not that heavily. The recruitment pool system lets us keep the hero and household units nice and rare without any arbitrary limits.
