1. ## The long Road 2.4.3a - Kingdoms and Steam compatible

Having read a couple of times that the original installer is giving problems adapting it to Steam I took the liberty of compiling an installer that works for disk and Steam without any messy side deals.

I also moved the installation from M2TW\TLR to M2TW\mods\TLR, eg the default mod installation path. Other then minor adjustments to facilitate that move and to make the installation steam compatible nothing got changed. The final patch is included in the installation.

Summary:
- the installer will find your path to M2TW provided your registry entry is fine. If that is not the case follow the instruction displayed by the installer.
- the installation is Steam compatible. Absolutely NOTHING additional is required, simply start the game with the provided desktop shortcut
- a file verification will take place at the end of the installation
- all file names are small caps to allow for Linux\Mac compatibility
- installer size reduced to 500MB due to improved compression

Installation:
- Click yourself through the installer
- If the path to your M2TW installation isn't displayed automatically follow the instructions of the installer
- Start the mod via the provided desktop shortcut
- Nothing else

Note:
In case of missing text apply this tutorial.

Thanks Gigantus! As always, we can count on you to save the community!

4. ## Re: Simplified installer for final version - Steam compatible

Gigantus are you one of the devs to this?

5. ## Re: Simplified installer for final version - Steam compatible

No, I just happened to have this still on my hard drive and thus made it steam compatible for those that had problems wit it.

6. ## Re: The long Road 2.4.3a - Kingdoms and Steam compatible

Seems to be a lot of missing text from the menu (when you try and save the game) and the absence of descriptions for agents.

7. ## Re: The long Road 2.4.3a - Kingdoms and Steam compatible

Thanks, I'll have a look into it.

Edit: I went as far as doing a clean install and start both campaigns (2 & 4tpy) but found all agent's text present as well as the loading text (see sample pics in spoiler).

1. Was the file check without errors?
2. Did you change anything with the installation? (absolutely no further action is needed for Steam)
3. Did you start TLR with the desktop shortcut provided?
4. Is there any entry in Steam's launch option? (right click game in steam library, choose properties and then check the 'set launch options' tab)

Spoiler for pics

8. ## Re: The long Road 2.4.3a - Kingdoms and Steam compatible

I answered the questions below, but think I'm going to do a clean install and see if that helps.

1. Was the file check without errors? Yes, it was installed without errors?

2. Did you change anything with the installation? (absolutely no further action is needed for Steam). I don't use Steam for M2TW.

3. Did you start TLR with the desktop shortcut provided? Yes.

4. Is there any entry in Steam's launch option? (right click game in steam library, choose properties and then check the 'set launch options' tab). I don't use Steam for M2TW so, no.

9. ## Re: The long Road 2.4.3a - Kingdoms and Steam compatible

Well. That didn't work. I even downloaded and reinstalled, but it still have the same problems.

10. ## Re: The long Road 2.4.3a - Kingdoms and Steam compatible

I am feeling reminded of this problem. Do try and see if that helps.

12. ## Re: The long Road 2.4.3a - Kingdoms and Steam compatible

The file where the text is based in is present (data\text\strat), even if it wasn't it would be read from the packed files. Try what happens if you remove both files of that name.

The merchant entry:
Code:
{SMT_MERCHANT_DESCR}Merchants are agents that work for their lord by establishing trade routes between distant foreign resources and their own local markets. Under the guise of private enterprise, merchants are able to move through enemy lands without drawing suspicion or committing a diplomatic transgression. When merchants work together so that they have a monopoly on a particular resource, they will generate extra income for their faction. Opposing merchants can attempt to make a hostile takeover of each other's assets, ending the other's career.

Well I took the plunge and it worked. thanks for you patience.

14. ## Re: The long Road 2.4.3a - Kingdoms and Steam compatible

No one knows why it works, or why it happens with a small number of M2TW installations in the first place - that's why I wrote the tutorial.
