Where did you saw MC announce that? And when? I kinda lost contact with him lately. Still, v1.8 will be soon released. It will be a collection of all the existing installers(full install, patch and hotfix) plus some more fixes into one full install. And it will probable use the mod switch so you can save space when you install it.That`s about it for now. Expect more news in the coming days.
Very good news indeed.
Will this be the mod to rule them all? I hope so.

Hi Florin,

RTR V 7.0 is probably coming out mid mars-april...(according to the interwiev with one of the modders)
Sorry to contradict you, Candel, but I must correct your post:
- RTRPE 1.8. is really close to release.
- You will have some time to play with it before 7.0 release
You have.
Actually what happened was that we were hours before a release. With no news from Marcus we decided to put what we got together and include as many fixes on Marcus` list as we could. It was almost ready when Marcus did came back and said that he had his version ready. This kinda complicated things because:
1. he did a review of the resources which we didn`t do for lack of time. So we needed to take that from his version.
2. the version we had put together was gonna use the mod switch. This involves modding a number of files. So, now we have to see in what for to release the next version of RTRPE.
Basically is a matter of including the fixes Marcus did in the mod switch version if we choose that one.
Anyway, one way or another, the v1.8 will be released. Only thing is that since most of the moders have jobs and families it will probable have to wait to the end of the week.
Very cool. Good luck with it.

I think it will be a positive change, because what I dislike most about RTR Platinum 1.6 is that the numbers of soldiers in a single unit are about three and more times smaller. Italian mercenaries, for example, are 20 in PE and in Gold they are 80. The main purpose I think is realism, but fighting with small armies is not a good idea. It is true that the games goes smoothly, but I prefer more units in a single army. Will that be changed?
PS: Does someone know, which RTR version supports most warriors in a single unit?

I suppose you are right. Obviously I am too incompetent, because I don't know where the unit settings are set from. I would be grateful if someone enlightens me how to do that and use optimal number of soldiers per unit.
I would suggest another piece of advice to the developers. In future, try to add two or three more factions that will respond to the historical picture about 280 AD. The Greek states, for example, used to be more divided and disunioned than the shown in the game. It would be better, I think, to make two greek factions - Epyrus, Etolian and Achean league/union(280-146) in order to achieve grater historicy. It would be a good idea to think about showing the variety of the celtic/gaulic tribes, because they were not so united as it is in the game. I am sure that the history - specialists in the team would agree with me for some of the advices.

You can change the number of soldiers in a unit in two ways:
1. the easy and user friendly video options. IIRC you need to go to the Options in the game`s menu and then click on advanced options(or more options; i forgot what it was called; it should be there in the upper right part of the options screen). Then you set it on small, normal, large or huge. Depending on that the unit size will increase or decrease. You can then go into a custom battle and see how big is the unit and if you like that. Of course, the total number of soldiers you can have in a battle with optimum performance depends on your PC.
2. you need to mod a text file to change the number of soldiers a unit has in normal size, but the number again is given in game by the unit size you select in the options. The file is export_descr_unit in your Rome - Total War/data folder. For this you need to know a few things so I recommend you just change the unit size from options.
I would second the request for more Greek factions but break them down into the following groupings :
The Achaean League (being the 2nd of that name) to include Achaea proper and a little unhistorically for the start of this mod Megalopolis and the Arcadian cities.
The Aetolian League being Aetolia proper, Phocis, Locris and extend control to the future client states of Messenia and Elis (accepted Aetolian protection around 243 BC).
The Lacedaemonians controlling Sparta and Laconia only.
The cities of Athens, Sicyon, Corinth, Argos and Boeotia would be under Macedonian control as would Demitrias in Thessally and Chalcis in Euboea.
To weaken Antigonos Doson's control of central Greece, Boeotia could be transfered to Aetolia (it entered the league in 245 BC).
To strengthen Sparta, Elis and Arcadia but not Megalopolis could be given to Sparta as they did join Areus in his attempt to reconstitute the old Peloponnesian League around this time.
Pontifex most of those faction "suggestions" (which have been heard millions of times already throughout the forums) are already being addressed for the upcoming RTR 7.
That's why there are historians on the team.
There is no doubt there are true professionals in the team and I am sure they are doing their best. The only we can do is patiently wait and encourage them and show our support. We must not push them too hard with insolent posts like: "When you will release this, when that?" A good game needs to take its time
