Now that I have your attention, this is something I've read in 2001, it's one of Nostrodamus predictions about the Third World War. He claimed the 3rd world war would happen from 2007 till 2012...

Any thought, how euh, this ting could get started?

Nostradamus was a rambling fool who made up all types of crazy predictions.He was bound to get some right.
That being said the vast amount of predictions credited to him were never even said by him, but due to his fame of predicting things he has his name lent to every prediction ever.

When people say "according to Nostradamus" they are saying "according to my interpretation of the million-and-one possibilities this little nonsensical rhyme could mean".

But about WWIII: I think it's being fought now, in little pockets all across the globe. The advent of nukes has resulted in WWIII become a "low-intensity / long-term conflict" full of proxy militias and government sponsorship by proxy of the enemies of their enemies (i.e. their friends).

There won't be a major world war anytime soon, but there's a reasonable possiblity of a global war betwen two alliances:

2008: iran declares it has nuclear weapons, several months after the american withdrawel from iraq. iran puts a puppet dictator to rule iraq, and signs open military alliances with syria, hizballa-ruled lebanon, north korea, and several south american countries. the palestinians and al-quaida get aid too, and an underground islamic terror orginasation is formed in france.

2009: america puts massive forces back into saudi arabia and the persian gulf states, fearing iranian attack and trying undermining the iraqi puppet government, tensions escalate between iran and america.
in israel, which had been attacked in minor guerialla attacks since 2007 (after the hizaballa took down the lebanese government and hamas won the palestinian civil war), olmert's moderate government falls, and a hard-line right wing government under netanyahu takes steps to grind down the palstinian, syrian and lebanese raids, while terror attacks occure in britain, france, germany and america, causing the rise of right wing government in the western world. north korea escalates tensions with south korea to solve it's economical crisis.

2010: a massive explosion in tel aviv by palestinian terrorists, which causes the deaths of hundreds of civilians, results in an israeli attack and reoccupation of the west bank and gaza by israel. lebanon declares it will free palestine and bombs israel. as israeli forces smash the lebanese army and advance into lebanon, syria declares war. israeli forces are stretched, but soon advance into syria, resulting in an iranian declaration of war, by sending it's air force to battle israel, with little succes. air battles over iraq and jordan give america an excuse to take over iraq and declare war on iran.
the iranian alliance network gets into action, as south american states put sanctions on america, north korea invades south korea, islamic rebelions take place in france, the pakistani, saudi and egyptian regimes fall, world economy collapses due to a huge oil crisis, and the doomsday clock goes 1 minute before midnight.

2012: eventually, nuclear holocaust is avoided, the western allies (USA, britian, france, israel, south kore and others) win, america is forced to occupy most of the middle east, and world governments begin a process of recovery, after the deaths of hundreds of thousands of men.



of course, this is just the worst case scenario.

Worst case scenario would be a chinese invasion of Taiwan, followed by a war decleration from the US and most NATO nations -> In a desperate last move the chinese launches a nuclear strike on NATO forces and its closest Allied cities -> Millions of dead -> NATO retaliation on China + Allies -> billions of dead civilians and dozen of annihilated nations => End of civilization = Rise of the rabbits!!!!

a chinese invasion of taiwan simply isn't going to happen, while escalates in the mid east are possible. that's why my scenario is involved around the middle east.
