Icon11 Fog on the Barrow-Downs - a new WIP Tolkien fan film

Tolkien’s mysterious, haunted barrow-downs appear in the Fellowship of the Ring and they are explored further in the appendices. We learn a little of the history of the barrow-downs, and how it was once a great city of Arnor, but was attacked by the Witch King of Angmar and came to be a haunted and dangerous place. This film is set against Tolkien’s mythology but is an original story. We will follow a company of adventurers as they venture into the barrow-downs, in an attempt to rob the ancient tombs of their treasures. However they will face many dangers and difficulties and become swept up in the ancient war between the forces of good and evil.

Fog on the Barrow-Downs is a short film created by myself, Patrick Robinson, and inspired by the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien. I’m a recent graduate in animation and illustration and live in England. The film has been a labour of love for me. It has been achieved with a budget of well under £500, and has taken many years to get close to being finished. I’ve been busy writing, creating props and costumes, filming, acting multiple parts, directing and animating and lots else. But I wouldn’t have gotten far with out the help and support of Peter Clarke (composer), Ida Jensen (Illustrator) Amy Wood (embroiderer) and Tom Robinson (blacksmith). Now we’re finally getting a bit closer to release, and I’m looking forward to releasing this to Tolkien fans all over the world.

Peter Jackson should be taking notes

I like the gritty feel, couldn’t even tell that this is LoR/Tolkien inspired but I see that as a good thing, separates it greatly from the Jackson films. I’m hoping that the tone of the trailer extends into the ending, I can’t stand to watch another “Good will always trump Evil” film...

I like the gritty feel too. Seems very ambitious to try tie together so many places in Middle-earth. And I think good job has been made with the locations.

Looks promising! The sound quality of the voice-over wasn't quite there, but I assume that was just for the trailer and won't be reflected in the actual movie.

The camera work impressed me a lot. Also, I find it fascinating what they'v acheived with so little money and working for fun. I have a bit better idea of the story now but perhaps intentionally I'm still confused about a couple of things.

The new trailer can be seen in better quality on Youtube now.

Quite a neat publicity stunt they did, having it posted on a channel with 252K subscribers^^
