Kurt felt a little uncomfortable as he felt Friedrich’s gaze pass over him.

”So everything from a steel worker to a damn musician,” he mused to himself. ‘Clack’ went the Junker’s heels in the background. This is gonna be-

    BOOM.

As Pvt Draxler came to, his entire body was painful. He groaned, “Where the hell am I.” Looking around, he realised the Train had been blown off its tracks and he had thrown from his carriage. He was not majorly injured, but the train containing all his battalion’s artillery pieces and weapons was now a useless hunk of wood and metal. Somehow the French knew where the train would be, Draxler thought to himself.

    “I’d better see if-“

"A-any of you still here? Herr Leutnant, Müller, Draxler, anyone?!"

Kurt recognised that voice, “Hallo? Grünfeld is that you?”

Dropping to one knee he tried remembering where he was. Memories flashed through his mind. The camp, his squadmates, a long train ride... and then blackness. Looking around he spotted the twisted frame of the train... derailed... metal and wood littered the ground, broken crates of supplies, and bodies. Up ahead a C/44 lay on its side and a crate of rifles had turned over spilling its contents onto the ground. From the other side of the wreckage Müller could hear familiar voices. Shouting in response "Alois is that you?" Staggering forward he picked up one of the rifles half using the butt as a crutch to press forward. Further in the distance there were other voices, foreign ones.

Looking down at his side for a pouch that was no longer there he cursed. Hands trembling he began frantically digging through his pockets looking for a cartridge. Finally his fingers touch against cold lead and paper. Grabbing one he yanked back the bolt and jammed one into the chamber.

"Oh danke Gott," Grünfeld whistled when he heard Müller's voice. He took a deep breath in preparation for a shout, but the smoke made him cough like someone who'd just burned through ten cigarettes in thirty seconds. "Müller! Hold on, I'm coming!" He stumbled in the direction of the other man's voice, but being half-blinded by the smoke and in such a hurry, tripped and fell not twice, thrice but four times. By the time he nearly ran into Müller's silhouette, he was not only sweating and panting madly, but had cuts beneath his arms where he'd tried to soften his fall that were seeping blood into his increasingly ragged sleeves. "Gut Gott. Do you have any idea what just happened?" Alois queried as he approached more slowly, trying to wave smoke out of his face and still coughing as he did so.

Just as he got closer to Müller, Alois heard another shout from the distance. It sounded like Draxler, the cobbler. "Hold that thought. Doesn't that sound like Draxler just now?" He stopped in his tracks and turned away. "Ja, it's me! I found Müller!" The musician shouted back, his normally crystalline voice now hoarse and distorted by exertion and the smoke.

He left his pickelhaube back, broken as it was into a dozen pieces.

While on the ground, the dizzyness from the explosion started to get to him. He dropped to his knees, breathing hastily. He looked around him. The train was thoroughly detracked. Soldiers were helping others to get out, horses were running around scared, orders were shouted by officers. As he was searching his surrounding, he noticed, not far from him, the young officer, von Lotzen, lying on the ground. Gathering some of his strength, he got himself up and slowly approached his CO...
Blood poured from the young Prussian's head. No response was given with the approchement of one of his men. With ammunition in the train reaching higher temperatures they start to ignite. Bullets jumping everywhere. Von Lötzen could only hope someone would tend to him now bullets were literally going off everywhere. To make things worse there was only one canon in sight that was still operable. With the canon lost, the people on the front lines would be sure to be annihilated.
