Default [GS HS] The Third Crusade (Fought Battles HS | Discussion Phase)

    The Third Crusade
    ~ A Fought Battles Hotseat ~

Work In Progress | Discussion Phase
    Modders needed for help!

    Admins:
Mergor, General Dragon., King Athelstan, possibly all of the HS Gaming Staff

    Players:
    - Byzantine Empire
    - Kingdom of Jerusalem
    - Principality of Antioch
    - Seljuk Sultanate
    - Ayyubid Sultanate

    Co-Generals:
    - Orthodox (max 2)
    - Catholic (max 4)
    - Muslim (max 4)

    How does it work?
    - The Campaign will work as a regular hotseat, but if both parties agree, the battle can be fought in a multiplayer match.
    - There are two reasons to fight the battle, first is that you can destroy armies and units and have decisive victories if you fight the battle in a multiplayer match. Armies defeated (at least what remains of them) will be teleported away into a safe spot and their movement points replenished immediately after. If you fight the battle in AR however, the casualties will be low, and the units will be intact from an AR defeat, and because reinforcing will be much easier than making a whole army, and movement points will be replenished, the army can go back to fight very soon, and the enemy wonít gain much ground.
    - Second reason that this is a fought battles HS, what are you doing here if you donít want to fight the battles?!
-If three or more stacks are participating in the battle, co-generals may be invited. A co-general can sub a ruler in battle. If the stacks are equal
    - Battle replays must be saved and sent to the admins to review and implement the results into the campaign map.
    - Campaign difficulty will be very hard so auto resolving isnít easy, and sieges yield a much harder challenge. (Time to starve out cities might be shortened)

    About the scenario
    - The Muslims and the Byzantines start with a lot of territories, only garrisoned units and an enormous treasury.
    - The crusaders start with few territories, elite armies, and moderate treasury.
    - Much like in the real world the non-crusader factions will need to raise their armies in a feudal style. They will have to choose what and where to muster.
    - The goal of the crusaders is to take certain settlements and to capture as many as they can so they donít go bankrupt.
    - The goal of the Muslims is to halt the crusaders, keep or recapture certain settlements, not to destroy them (that is optional)
    - The goal of the Byzantines is up to them.

    Rules
    Fought battles rules
    - If an army is beaten both in AR and in a fought battle and it survives, it will be teleported to a safe place in the playerís territory to regroup. Itís movement points will be also replenished so it can be used right after the battle.
    - If 90% of the army is destroyed in a fought battle, only the remaining cavalry and the general survives.
    - Generals only die on the campaign map if the battle is a siege or a sally out. (on the sallying side)
    - Units surviving with less than 10% health are destroyed.
    - Units surviving with 10%-25% health are merged or destroyed.
    - Units surviving with less than 25%-50% health are merged or rounded up to 50%.
    - Units surviving with more than 50% health are rounded up based on their casualties.

    Co-Generals:
    - Co-Generals are players who fight alongside their rulers in multiple-army battles.
    - They can also sub the ruler itself, or do the battles alone if the ruler doesnít have time for it.
    - It also means that a single faction is played by multiple players, and Co-Generals can give advice to the ruler where to go and what to do.
    - Thus, a ruler with some Co-Generals alongside it can mean faster turns with more players in the game which also results in more enjoyment.

Changes to units, buildings and economy:
    - Enormous starting treasuries.
    - All unit cost and upkeep are much higher, thus a faction can only have limited armies which cost so much, that you need to conquer and sack to keep your economy intact. If you lose units however, your income skyrockets, thus you can easily raise another one, or reinforce an existing army.
    - All building costs are quadrupled.

    Generals:
    - The general with the more command stars chooses the location where his army starts in the battle map
    - Morale bonus gives extra ranks to units (+1 rank/+1 morale)
    - Dread gives a bonus to settlement looting and ransoming (+1 dread/+10% florins)
    - Chivalry gives a bonus to unit recovery (+1 chivalry/-1% to every recovery level)
    - Every level of piety gives a +5% chance to let you choose an attribute and increase it by two levels before the battle starts and until the battle lasts.
(Example: 5 piety gives a 25% chance to increase command stars by two levels)

    Agent rules
Spies cannot be used to open gates and assassins can only kill other agents or sabotage buildings.

    Bankruptcy
    - If a nation has less than -10000 florins, the generals will receive penalties to their stats when initiating fought battles.
    - If a nation has less than -20000 florins, 20% of the units in their armies will desert each turn
    - If a nation has less than - 30000 florins, the deserted units will come back in rebel form to fight the nation.

    Special Rules:
    - Armies cannot fight without a general, not even in AR.
    - There are no restrictions of how many units you can field or with how many can you initiate a battle. The upkeep will limit the amount of units greatly.
    - Generals cannot be adopted and are limited. Man of The hour is illegal.
    - Ransoming is possible. Releasing them gives you Chivalry. Executing prisoners gives you Dread, but also gives the enemy faction a moral bonus in the next battle. (Only after fought battles)
    - Faction leader, heirs and family members will be historically accurate. Generals may be created with a ďpoints to spend on traitsĒ system to suit the Co-Generalís needs.
    - Trebuchets needed to siege anything beyond wooden walls. Fort price is upped to 10000 florins.

    Misc
    - With Co-General in place, there can be such titles for Co-Generals as Master of Horse, or Infantry. They can even play the battle with a single stack, with somebody controlling only the cavalry, the other the infantry
    - With several players on one faction, discord channels can be made for each for players to talk.
    - There is a chance Athelstone can make a video series from this

    Frequently Asked Questions
Is there no point to fighting siege battles since the attacker cannot gain an advantage by it?
    - Yes, that is why both players have to agree to fight the battle.

How can you implement exact results into the campaign map, or use battered units in multiplayer battles?
    - We canít, thatís why we will round up and merge units after a review. Slight differences will not even impact the battles marginally, since not 30 men wins a battle but the better general, and players will want to fight the battles will full unit strengths, not battered armies where they will most likely lose.

What about if you use Faction Leaders who have double the bodyguards? How do you implement them into multiplayer battles? Surely, +30 elite cavalry does make the difference?
    - 31 or 60, if you send your general into the battle, you will most likely lose it and the whole battle. Thus, the bodyguard number will be 31 in every battle.

Ask any questions you have: I will probably have an answer for it, and a lot of things will be needed to be clarified in my opinion.

The estimated start will be based on the end of the discussion phase, but not earlier than January.

I'm giving this a bump to get it off page 2, and to see if there's any interest now.

I am waiting on some modding help btw, things I cannot do myself. The map itself is done, but the units stats need a lot of work

Any thoughts of making this a team hotseat? Ie two players per faction who alternate playing turns to add another level of communication and strategy needed?

It is a team hotseat. In addition to the main player, there's Co-Generals. - 2 players per faction, with muslims on onr team, Crusaders on a second snd Byzzies on a third.
