Default Graphics Settings Keep Turning Themselves up?

I Keep getting the fatal graphics error, which is impossible as the computer I have is capable of running the newest total war games no trouble, so I turn down the graphics settings like the box says I should. Then the fame crashes anyway and says the same thing. I open the game again and suddenly the graphics settings are back to where they were before I turned them down, its as if my game keeps cranking up the settings after I turn them down to help with the graphics error. Any help would be appreciated

This is almost certainly not a graphics error. It's the generic CTD message spit out by M2TW when it has a memory overload, and crashes as a result. Please check out the FAQ, and in particular Section IV. Follow the link, understand the problem, and then "do your own research" to find a solution posted on the internet (that's as non-vague as I can be on this subject)

Thank you for the reply, I figured it would be this simple, I just got new laptop and didnt want to take this path unless necessary. Can you say how your experience with it is? If not I understand.

I found it unnecessary with Windows 7, but on my Win10 setup, the game is almost unplayable w/o it.
