Cool start, that's an intense battle! The cavalry charge by Athens (which you suggested) at about 38:30 was a good move. It looks like garrisons are a lot more challenging with Wars of the Gods.

In this episode, Athens declarers its independence from Macedon. Consequently, Macedon sends an army down to just below Larissa where Sparta and Athens meet the giant on the field of battle, however, Macedon has support from Larissa's garrison of 3,500 men. Will the smaller Greek states be able to be victorious?

That's an epic battle, where Sparta and Athens take on a Macedonian pike-heavy army which is being reinforced by a large Larissa garrison. It look like (as you said) missile units were the answer, although I liked the way that Athens held and outflanked a Macedonian pike unit at about 40:00. I wonder - if you were playing this battle again, would you have wanted to disrupt the enemy skirmishers with your missle cavalry (even if you didn't actually charge into melee) - maybe you were considering this but decided against it when your cavalry saw the Macedonian general in the wooded area?
