Icon1 Use of Imperium for Generals?

Just wondering if there's any actual use for Imperium for the generals in the campaign?
I have a FM who I'm using for a general but who has Imperium relinquished.
Does it give any negative stats or traits if I keep using him, instead of someone who has legal authority.

Generals who engage in battle without imperium won't get bad traits (that I'm aware of), but they do have a malus to siege, attack, and troop morale. Not really a problem for the human player.

there is penalty on troop rating and morale?? Luckily the penalty is not as big as those rejected Carthaginian generals...
