Nargothrond and the House of Bëor

Orodreth lies dead on the plains of Talath Dirnen, his dreams and that of the Noldor and Sindar of western Beleriand buried with him. Of the large host of the Noldor of Nargothrond that set out to hold the crossings on the Teiglin a mere handful returned to the Underground City, broken and beaten. They found the city in chaos. Finduilas was the only child of Orodreth and she was currently not fit to rule, overcome with grief of the tragedy that had befallen her house. Refugees flowed into the city increasing day by day as the hosts of the enemy plundered and burned the Talath Dirnen on their way to Nargothrond. A couple of days after the fated battle a messenger from the Falathrim arrived with some good news. Unlike the complete annihilation of Orodreth's force, Círdan had retreated after sustaining heavy losses but the Haven master yet lived and more importantly he had a plan to save Men and Elves from this ever oppressing Darkness.

The Dwarves spent last turn gathering up their forces. last turn the try muttiple ways to take Belegost, but in theory they always failed... they didnt even knew how they coulnt win... so they waited. this turn, with new recruits and new reinforcements, they had the forces and attacked after killing the spies inside and sending theirs.

All the forces were ready for battle

even with soo many good and overwhelming forces, they still lost soooo many men... men that cannot be replaced easily... they had the city, but at what cost...

several troops dead... last time this happened, the enemy retook the city. this time they need to hold it for longer, as they have few manpower too keep recruiting.. and at this pace its a matter of time until they perish...

    ----

over to the elves. the Faction Leader and Heir, got all units that could muster and attack the orcs and drakes. those orcs and drakes hurt too many in the past. it was a super hard battle, and once again several troops were lost just to kill some drakes... but at least there was a victory

their great stats did pay off

but once again the troops lost, who are hard to replenish, were double of the enemy.

a bit north, an enemy general walking back was attacked in an ambush

after this victory, the forces encounted the previously defeated army of the enemy attacked by the faction leader, they got their troops together and atatcked for what was an easy victory.

(btw this kept giving me heroic, most likely due to the fact that the units were already defeated so it messed the results. in a normal hs i wouldnt use, but here im already having too reload too much, and here it should be a normal victory bc 80% of the times i attacked i won heroic... ps: i also kept the heroic results that some enemy were able to retreat, some results wipped the enemy, ill assume its okay this time in this situation)

either than that battle, more agent actions took place. The elves are in their last legs, but have came up with a last hope with their allies. the most the elves can do is play a delay game... and slowly this is proving to be very hard....

The Border entrances of the forest of Doriath were shut in many places, apart from the paths in the south which continued to be open, which still received supplies and trade, as two spider armies one from the northwest and one from the northeast, moved southwards and attacked the border forts inside the edge of the Girdle of Melian. To the northwest , The house of Haldad were again pushed out of their homes, as Drugobel was sacked as the forces of shadow advanced, burning and destroying any signs of human life within the forest of brethil. In the east however, the two giant armies of morgorth, seemingly stalled, either looking for new orders, or perhaps receiving new orders, or perhaps they had outran their supplies? but for whatever reason they still held their ground , waiting for some reason or other.

First things first, Thingol decided, ordering the elfven assassin to clear the lands of all foul spies, before ordering a small reinforcing battlegroup to the east, to smash the spiders group that had hit the border, not too many but not to small that they would be imperiled to do the job that was required, for it was criterical for the elfs of Doraith to retain a Good striking force at all times , as the spiders where but the tip of the spear that would be facing his people. The spider attack in the west was of a far greater problem, as their forces contained bigger and more adult spider, of such sizes that would prove probmatic to deal with, so he gave the commander in the area, Mablung all powers to solve the situation in whatever way he could....

A large elfven caravan arrived from the south, bearing messages and a massive donation of Gold, from the Laegrim, returning such aid, as they could, from the help that had given them in turn. In his happiness of such a gift he wrote a personal letter to their chieftain thanking them for their aid, but warning them to keep themselfs safe at the first, for above all this he worried for his daughter and son-in-law that still dwelled in their lands, and that lands security meant much to him , to have them kept safe, then perhaps many other troubles. Letters also came from the caravan [many scouts had joined into one giant mass of troops to help pass the border] from the House of Haldad promising to stand together with the elfs of Doriath remembering their oathtaking when they had originally been gifted the lands of brethil, and one another more personal letter from Cirdan , who was sorely pressured in the southwest, but at the least he was still safe, for with such wisdom, there where always things that could be done. Some of the dwarfs from the previous caravan had stayed behind, and gleefully took hold of the treasures and wealth eager to use such things, to purchase more materials for making armour and weapons, ...the forges were again lighted, and the ring of hammer rang out....

    --------------

Captain Minaithelan looked at the chittering spiders that had surrounded the outpost in the east, waving his hand behind him, as the well trained troops deployed into formation, with a grim smile on his face. He had always been good at his job, and here was a chance to prove his mettle. Looking back he saw that the elfven reinforcements had finally formed a line, and they lifted their bows in readyness...

"Naur!" , said the captain, and thousands of arrows, were flung out from their position arriving in a giant shower of death upon the ranks of spiders.felling some of the smaller ones, and only injuring ones that were the size of a large dog.Wave after wave of arrows arrived, felling many but the majority of the spiders quickly moving with incredible speed, and agility flanked around the elfven forces charging at the elven reinforcements.

"Erui" , cried out the captain, and the first rank of shield bearing armoured elfs moved in front of the armies, slamming their shield into the ground as they formed a rough shield wall, as they bought forth their curved blades reading to receive the charge.

The wave of spiders hit the shieldwall , and many saw the gaping maws of chittering fangs as the spider tried to bit or pull shields from elven hands, as the elfven swords began their bloody task. For a brief movement there was a worry as some of the spiderkin had moved throu the trees, and on webs of silk they had spun out and down ,landing on some of the elven troopers on either flank of the line, causing chaos and killing many, disrupting efforts. but the effect was momentary as the elfven archers at the rear took careful aim, reducing many to spider cushions laden with arrows, elven troopers filled gaps where elfs had fallen and the line solidified and held, as the bloody rise and fall of elven swords cleaved their way to victory. The end came, when a elven horn rang out from the fortress and the defenders of the border, now took their revenge in full , charging out in the rear of the spiders faltering battle line, with cries of elven heros on their tongues, the spiders line wavering and broke and that is where perhaps the true killing began, as isolated pockets of spiders, died in their hundreds in the confusion of their retreat. There was perhaps a small portion of the spiderforce that found its way back to their burrows but of the results of this battle, they would not tell to their kin.

As for the captain , he survived with many of the reinforcements, but before he withdraw back into the depths of the forest, some of the house of Haldad refugees volunteered to help man the defence post on the border, to fight with the elfs, as best they could. In the spirit of new cooperation that those in the forest worked under, they where given weapons and armour from those elf's that had fallen .

Minaithelan, withdrew with the elfven dead, taking them back to the capital for burial , for although their spirits had returned to the undying lands their bodies still remained and their people would see them honoured, for in such times of these, when they knew not when there would be time for such niceties before the full weight of the enemy was upon them, let all that could be done...be done.

    --------------------

Mablung observed the spiders sieging the fortress on the western border and knew he had a mighty task to perform today, it was'nt the size of the force that was the problem, but more the fact that a giant spider was clearly in command, a giant spider the size of a large horse, clearly was the commander for the foul beasts, and a host of spiders the size of large dogs protected it acting as bodyguards keeping away the stinging arrows that could slowly weaken it. Mablung had been given command of many of the forest wardens and doriath axemen as many from smaller settlements had taken up arms, but something more would be needed for this task. A order was sent to ask of the kings reserve for a few companies of elfven heavy swordsmen to provide the fine edge of the sword to achieve this task he had been given.

The battle plan was much the same as that in the east, but with a slight difference, they main elfven line of battle was madeup of the much lighter armoured forest wardens and axemen, with the elfven swordsmen hidden on each flank for a counter, elfven bows lured the spiderarmy forward and they crunched into the elfven mainline which took damage but held. But now the heavy armoured swordsmen swept in from the side, sweeping all the spiders away on the flank, leaving only the spiders center remaining, still held in place, by the shear furiosity of their new queen.

It would be foolish to move close, if there was not need, and with the spider queens bodyguard now shoring up the sides of their army keeping it from falling, for only they with their size could do so , he pulled back his own bow, and unleashed a well positioned elven arrow which struck the spiderqueen in one of her eyes. It instantly burst open with a shower of black goo, and the spiderqueen looked around desperately in great pain for who had given her such punishment.

As the battle raged around them, a second eye, and then another was taken from the queen in similar fashion, as slowly anger turned to fear to the overly larger spider, and eventually she gave a great howl , and turned away, bowling over some of the smaller spiders around her, as she fled the field heading northwards back to the burrows. At her departure the last of the spiders morale disappeared as it became a torrent of spiders trying to escape, much to the delight of the elfs, who took their time to get some easy kills.

Mablung waved back the forest wardens and axemen to withdraw deeper into the forest, as he helped repair the fortress on the border, to make it better to receive any other attacks in the near future...

played fast this time to makeup for previous ones!

    ----

There were several defeats last turn... a mistake was made and the elves though the orc leader war trapped, he wasnt and made some heavy defetas.
on the dwarven side, a siege was broken, and several died...

the dwarves did a some assasination of enemy agents. they also attack some orcs with their main army, those were the orcs that went to attack the defeated dwarves last turn (no photo OO)

the elves were in a serious situation.... a city was under siege and nothing could be done. the enemy faction leader, after killing thousands of elves had a small force. the elves mustered what they could. but most of their leaders were defeated and neither them nor the remaining of their armies could move....

so the leader, a 3 star general, collected all of their weapons, and become a better comandar, inspired by their leader (and after half an hour reloads) they were able to defeat the enemy and scar their faction leader, whom was able to retreat back to the safety of orcs north

the orcs and dragon advance in the mountains, lets hope the dwarves and sustain another wave, the elves sent all garrison north. the elves will start to face the same problem as the dwarves in which they no longer have many available countrymen with experience (aka my unit pools are almost all empty)

there were also several agent play by the elves, which is the only thing they actually have an advantage on.... the elves cannot hold much longer... and unless something changes, once the enemy breaks this last line, reach the elven capital and takes it, that would be the end...

Morgoth watched the unfolding scenes through the eyes of a flock of dark crows with glee. The noble Fingon's host had been caught in a trap and their pathetic siege of the conquered city of Minas Mithrim had been broken. The dark lord's armies had covered immense distances in days as they moved non stop, needing neither sleep nor rest and ate as they marched, as they were designed by Morgoth himself. Three of his legions had returned to surround the unsuspecting Fingon. Again Minas Mithrim would be filled with the burning bodies of Elf and Men for none shall be spared. "The war was proceeding as planned.....with slight delay but no matter....." thought Morgoth to himself. Soon the forests of Doriath would be cleansed of the scum that lived there as well. But one nagging thought Morgoth kept in his mind was Gondolin. His forces still have not found the one threat he desired to destroy the most. "Soon.......I will find them.......Let them watch as the world around them crumbles"

I could just RP with Earendil despite him not being in my faction, or I could use Elros as a substitute for him or something)
    (late answer, sorry )

Thats indeed a ver good question ... Did you send them to the west already?

Imho, this is entirely up to you guys, how this HS end... there obviously was just a little chance that a good side wins on their own, the HS was more about enjoying the RP and playing in this legendary age of Tolkien's world... and you guys have indeed managed to come very far in this

It seems like, that the last of strongholds of the good sides are going to fall eventually, or have already fallen... its only up to you, whether we let the tragedy of the elves as in the lore unfold, i.e., that also Doriath, and then Gondolin should glouriously fall (and not sure if the players can still do somth with Turin...), or we cut this sooner...

(BTW, a map preview for you guys
    )

I repeat, how the HS ends/continues, is entirely up to you. If you guys enjoy it, and want to finish your RP threads in accordance with the lore, we can definitely continue ... but if in case you guys feel enough was done already, we could conclude things.
Either simply by concluding it at this point, or a few turns ahead... or we could let you RP the help from the Valar, who finally come and crush Morgoth (and destroy the whole continent in the process), so I suppose we would spawn you some stacks to accomplish it (or just RP it)...

Anyway, if you guys want to arrive at some nice conclusion, I think you need to start to collaborate more .... I mean in regards where should your RP arcs head.... not via military/politics

So everyone, please give you opinion on the HS (I have no issue to continue to sub this HS indefinitely, if you wish, just need to hear from ya )

(BTW, all factions are horde in the mod... so even you lose lands, you can still live and continue with the story, if you have some family members... so for example eventhough Fingolfin/Marach is likely going to fall, it can survive...)

As for the hotseat itself, I don't mind playing on, but I also don't mind, if it is concluded. I will let the others decide it's fate.

I think the most important voice goes to the guys who turn after turn provide great RP stories. They should decide. For my part, I sadly did not/do not have the time to write these, so my vote doesn't matter that much. I'm fine both ways, either to keep on playing my turns, or to conclude things.

Well.I would like to know what the factions of the west think and their ability to holdFor me, since i joinned i tried my best and even used roleplay for fun. But im at a point where im asking dragon to use kid gloves and pulling every trick i have. Bc of the overwhelming power the evil forces have and how defeating them is troublesome.I dont have to end and i will gladly continue. But at the same time I personally arrived at a problem regarding recruitment This hs had very long recruitment pools, which i used it to the fullest. So now in several cities I wont be able to produce armies for a while, even though i have a quite reasonable land massAt best i can stall my own downfall in the east. The drawves situation is similar where I already spent all the production quees i have. And now with both factions I would, for the most, only be able to produce substandard armies...Therefore i want to know how many more turns can people in the west actually stand without any chance of me helpingWe could play until doriath falls Although its obviously in reality evil foces would win if this was a normal hs and dragon was simply playing at full capacity (i also made some mistakes in the hs but that happens). At the same time i know I can’t easily defeat any of his stacks even with several reloads

I am actually curious of the elves and men can mount a defense and defeat Morgoth without Valar help. Besides Gondolin, do you guys have many stacks or can build more? Otherwise we can conclude if you wish.
