Finished the faction rules and a suggestion how to include the most important events. The Faction rules are mostly just things you should know about those factions and that you should definitely respect. If I got anything wrong, or mised anything important, let me know.

Also, everyone please download the mod asap, if you havent yet and check if it works for you. It would be unfortunate if the first turn had delays and subs due to people not downloading it in advance.

    The Evil
    - The Evil is led by Morgoth Bauglír, who has created all the evil creatures and committed the crimes such as the theft of Silmarils and the destuction of Two Lamps and The Two Trees of Valinor.
    - He fights to rule all of Middle-Earth.

    Dor Daedeloth:
    - Mogoth's faction, controlling Angband, fielding vast armies of orcs and other creatures, such as the Balrogs. Angband is currently under the siege of Angband, lasting four hundred years, by the armies of Noldor and Edain.
    - Morgoth has in the possesion The Silmarills.

    Glaurung:
    - The Faction is led by Glaurung, the mightiest of all the dragons, who is the first commander of Morgoth's armies. The Factions fields various kinds of dragons.

    Sílerath Ungoliant:
    - The Faction is led by Ungoliant, the first spider of Middle-Earth. Although initially allied with Morgoth, helping him to steal The Silmarills, she later betrayed him and managed to capture him, until he was saved by The Balrogs. Now she breds with The Great Spiders, increasing the terror in her lands, Nan Dungortheb.

    Ragdúath:
    - The Creatures of The Night, dwelling in the forests of the south. They were created by Morgoth and make small raids against neighboring lands...

    Noldor
    - The Elves that finished the Great Journey and reached Valinor. After Morgoth killed Finwe, the first High King of The Noldor and father of Feanor, Fingolfin and Finarfin, and stole The Silmarills, crafted by Feanor, most of them wanted to return back to Middle-Earth to fight him, swearing an Oath of Feanor.
    - After committing the first kinslaying against The Falmari at Alaquolande to seize their ships, The Noldor were confronted by Mandos, The Doomsman of Valar, who delivered them a prophecy of The Doom of Noldor. Afterwards, some of The Noldor, most importantly Finarfin, who had no hand in the kinslaying, returned to Valinor, and The Valar forgave them. However, the rest of The Noldor, who left for Middle-Earth, were banned by The Valar.
    - Fingolfin and his host participated in the first kinslaying, arriving late, thus assuming The Falmari attacked The Host of Feanor. As they learned the true later, the relations between the hosts of Feanor and Fingolfin deteriorated even more. In result, The Host of Feanor betrayed them, took all the ships and sailed to Middle-Earth, burning all the ships afterwards. Thus, the more numerous host of Fingolfin had to go through the dangerous ices of Helcaraxe, where they struggled greatly, and many of them died.
    - The Noldor ignore Thingol's title the overlord of Beleriand, and follow their own High King in Middle-Earth. The relations between the two nations of the elves are problematic (via the part about The Sindar further below)

    Host of Fingolfin:
    - After finally arriving into Middle-Earth, The Noldor almost ended up in a civil war. However, due to Feanor's death in the hands of the balrogs shortly after the landing, and later Feanor's oldest son Maedhros being saved by Fingolfin's son Fingon, the rift was sealed. Maedhros waived his claim to the kingship, and Fingolfin became the second High King of The Noldor. Thus he leads the siege of Angband.
    - House Marach is a vassal to Host of Fingolfin.

    Host of Feanor:
    - Following the death of Feanor, the host is now led by Maedhros, who passed the kingship to Fingolfin, which some of his brother are enraged about.
    - They are still bound by The Oath of Feanor - the non-negotable enmity against anyone, who would take The Silmarills, or keep it from them.

    Kingdom of Gondolin:
    - Gondolin was founded by Turgon, the second son of Fingolfin. It is a mighty hidden kingdom of The Noldor, which The Evil has been unable to locate.

    Kingdom of Nargothrond:
    - Nargothrond was founded by Finrod Felagund, a son of Finarfin, who unlike his father left for Middle-Earth, even though he has been opposing The Oath of Feanor. He is actively participating in The Siege of Angband.
    - Unlike the rest of The Noldor, he has good relations with High King Thingol. He is also well respected amongst The Edain. He was the first to discover House Beor, and guided them to Estolad. They assist in the siege of Angband and remain loyal to the host of Finarfin.

    Sindar
    - The Elves that didnt finish the Great Journey, and stayed in Beleriand, due to Thingol falling love with Melian, one of the Maiar.
    - Although mostly not co-operating with The Noldor, they are also at war with Morgoth.

    Kingdom of Doriath:
    - Elu Thingol is the high king of The Sindar, the highest respected position amongst The Sindar in Middle-Earth. He is also a nominal Overlord of Beleriand, although The Noldor ingnore that and follow their own High King.
    - After learning about Kinslaying at Alaqualonde, committed by The Noldor against The Falmari, Thingol banned all The Noldor from entering his lands.
In game effects: Kingdom of Doritath cant make alliance with any Noldor faction, nor participate in any joint military actions with them. (except Kingdom of Nargothrond). Neither is any Noldor army allowed to enter/cross Doriath lands, under a threat of declaring a war.

    Falathim
    - The Falathim are led by Círdan. They respect Thingol as The High King of The Sindar, although unlike him they still communicate with The Noldor.
    - They are not actively participating in the war against Morgoth. They are content with tending to their shipwrights for most of time...

    Edain
    - The race of Men who came into Beleriand. Most of them befriended elves and fought alongside them during Dagor Beleriand.

    House of Beor
    - The Men guided into Estolad by Finrod Felagund, the king of Nargothrond. Later they moved further north, to Dorthonion. They remain loyal to House of Finarfin, and are actively participating in the siege of Angband.

    House of Haldad
    - The Second Edain house that came into Beleriand. They were granted permission to settle in the forest of Brethil, part of Doriath, by High King Thingol in exchange for defending it.
    - The kept seperate from the other Edain and they also mostly keep themselves out of the war.

    House of Marach
    - The Third Edain house that came into Beleriand and it is the greatest of the edain houses, now more commonly known under the name House of Hador, due to Hador Goldenhead, the heir to House of Marach. He became a vassal to High King Fingolfin, later bringing most of his house to Dor-lómin, granted to him by Fingolfin.

    Eastrons
    - The other race of Men who came into Beleriand after the Edain. They settled in Lothlann and swore allegiance to House of Feanor.

    House of Bór
    - They were given lands south of The March of Maedhros and they remain loyal to House of Feanor, despite Morgoth's attempts.

    House of Ulfang
    - They came together with House of Bór and swore allegiance to Caranthir, Maedhros' brother. However, they are secretly in employ of Morgoth...

    Khazad
    - The dwarves that settled in the Blue Mountains. They provide the most qualite crafts and trade with the elves of Beleriand.

    Khazad ai-Belegost
    - Those dwarves that settled in Belegost, in the Blue Mountains. They are actively participating in the war.

    Khazad ai-Nogrod
    - Those dwarves that settled in Nogrod, in the Blue Mountains. They are dont participate in the war much. A lot of them are employed in Doriath by King Thingol.

    Avari
    - Those Elves that refused the summons to come into Valinor after seeing the seemingly impassable Misty Mountains. After that they became a separated poeple.

    Laegrim
    - Those that reached Eriador likely learned about the wealth of Doriath from the dwarves, thus they later crossed the Blue Mountains and settled in Ossiriand. They are also called Green-Elves, probably living off of simple hunting and gathering. They make no weapons of steel, only used bows.
    - They made friends with High King Thingol, who recognized them as a long lost kin. They sent an army to assist Doriath in the beginning of Dagor Beleriand, led by King Denethor, however due to their simple weapons they had heavy losses and Denethor was slain.
    - Since that, they became a secretive people, not taking further part in Dagor Beleriand, nor naming any king of their own.

    Events
These events dont have any specific turn on which they happen, will depend on the situation, neither they necessarily must happen in the same order as they did in the lore. Mostly they will be about adding new options for roleplay, concerning mainly those directly involved in them, although they will be often also significantly changing diplomacy between some factions.
    - These events I consider core stone which we shuold have to follow the lore in some loose way. Its up to everyone if you include for your own roleplay some of those not listed or make up your own...

Dagor Bragollach - The Battle of Sudden Flame
    - Starts on turn 1. No special changes, as Morgoth already starts with huge armies ready to attempt to break the four hundreds years lasting siege of Angband.
    - Involves all factions participating in the war.

    Beren and Lúthien
    - The Chain of Events, when High King Thingol wants to prevent a marriage between a Beren of House Beor and his daughter Lúthien by giving them an impossible task, to bring him The Silmaril from Morgoth's crown. They suceed, by which Thingol unwittingly binds himself to the Doom of Mandos, forcing the sons of Feanor to attack Doriath in an attempt to retrieve The Silmarills. It can as well cause a war between the dwarves and Doriath, as the dwarves were tasked with putting The Silmaril into Nauglamír, later greedy for the Silmarill and demanding it, causing the enmity between elves and dwarves.
    - Will be likely only roleplaying, since stealing the Silmarills can be hardly done on the campaign map.
    - Involving: Kingdom of Doriath and House of Marach, possibly also the dwarves.

Nirnaeth Arnoediad - The Battle of Unnumbered Tears
    - At some point after Dagor Bragollach, The Noldor will be allowed to attempt to form The Union of Maedhros. That will allow them to call to arms even those nations of Beleriand not participating in the war so far, such as The Sindar, for a bold invasion into Angband.
    - There might be some boost to the "good" factions as part of it, as well as probably moving some armies from the south (Sindar) to the frontline using admin console command, so it doesnt take that long to start.
    - House of Ulfang will be allowed to betray their former allies. Till this point the other "good" factions will not be allowed to attack them either (not fully decided on this yet)

    Túrin Turambar
    - Morgoth will place a curse on Húrin's family. Exactly how it all happens will depend on how things play out after Nirnaeth Arnoediad... Could be possibly replaced by other characters or events too...
    - What will all happen (as this story includes a lot of things) will depend on the involved roleplayers. It can include the destruction of Nargothrond, death of Glaurung and revelatin of Gondolin to the enemy...
    - Involving: House of Marach, House of Haldal, Kingdom of Nargothrond, Kingdom of Doriath

    War of The Wrath
    - If you stay nice, I might let you kill Morgoth in the end, with the help of The Valar
    - Involving: Everyone who stays alive...

Seems like a nice summary of everything we need to know ! A suggestion maybe for the Beren and Luthien event. Firstly shouldn't it be the House of Beor that is involved instead that of Marach? Also possibly the Kingdom of Nargothrond be involved as well since Beren travels there to redeem an oath Finrod made to his father Barahir and thus helps him in his quest?

PS: I've installed the mod and it works perfectly for me!

You are entirely right! I was probably originally writting this one for Túrin and then forgot to change it.

The details of each of these events will be polished just before the event happens anyway, will always talk to the involved players and figure out how to make it work, as many other things may go differently than we expect

Was about to say about Beren and Luthien's quest that it belongs to the House of Beor, but I see you got it. Finrod Felagund definitely involved, as well. Otherwise, great summary of it all. Really nicely done! A possible "minor" event could be the duel of Fingolfin and Morgoth right after the Dagor Bragollach, but that would be only RP focused.

Well, I dont think the duel needs to be an "event". This one is entirely up to you. If you decide to roleplay sending Fingolfin into Angband to challenge Morgoth, it will happen

If all players would be doing things like that time from time, that would be great for the HS

Seeing how Morgoth only ever left Angband once during the war, to fight Fingolfin, will there be a rule so that he cannot leave Angband unless it is directly attacked or good starts to win the fifth battle?

    Yep, makes sense.

In other news, keldo will be playing House of Ulfang, so there will be a bit more flexibility to the Eastrons betrayal than if it was being played straight by Morgoth.

And if Commodus cant fix his PC, REDBOOSTY would likely take his spot

We are starting in a day or two.

Let the tragedy of The Silmarills begin, Morgoth up! http://www.mediafire.com/file/9dw5mu...oth_1.sav/file

We had to fix some files a bit, so you need to redownload (read Dragon's post). However, if you are going to play only in this hotseat (and not also in Dagor Ennor), you dont have to download all of it again. In that case, download only this file, and copy it into .../mods/Third_Age_3/data and overwrite. (Rather also copy it into /mods/Third_Age_3/data/First_Age/data/ in case you would use the swapper in future). That should be enough to be compatible with this save.

As stated before, we will figure out specifics regarding the events and so on once they happen. Will be more in a form of me privately contacting players throughout the game, suggesting some directions for your roleplay/gameplay.

Recheck the rules, added there some more things, such as allowing watchtowers and updated the garrison limits for spies and so on. I will add some missing lore/events things tomorrow, a bit tired now.

Good luck to you all, this one should be fun...

Dark clouds grew above the nightmarish lands of Angband. The drums of war have begun to beat, for Morgoth's armies were on the move. The time to break the long siege of his domain had come for Morgoth was ready. He had built his armies up for the last 400 years to unleash them on the elves and men in the south and his greatest weapon Glaurung, the father of dragons, was salivating at the prospect of burning and destroying the puny elves and their human allies. Morgoth would rule this Middle Earth or he would see it destroyed for none besides him was worthy of being its sole ruler.

    House Ulfang up!
    https://www.sendspace.com/file/6atsx7

The Great Dragon Father Glaurung has been awakened and now ready to lay waste upon the land of the elves. Him and his dragonkin are now swarming out their nest within the great mountains. A dark time is upon on all the races that defies the rule of Morgoth. Far from the lands of Angband Ungoliant in his lairs waving his webs and spawns more of his children. While he might not be an ally of the dark lord she, still a member of the force of darkness and her hungers is unstoppable and soon she will unleash herself and her smaller spiders upon the lands.
Far south in the deep forests the Raugdúath, creatures of the night heard their dark lords command and they also gathered their swarms of wolves, wargs, bat and bears and soon will leave their forests to harass the mortal races.

High King Fingolfin was sitting on the terrace leading out of his bedroom, musing again on the magnificence and splendor of the old days in Valinor, the majestic city of the Noldor, Tirion, how life used to be so peaceful, full of joy and merriment. Ahh.. the beauty of the Trees of Valinor, the gardens of Lorien...how wonderful would it be to see them again... he thought, though he knew those things were now in the past and his people, the Noldor, would never again be able to cast their eyes on those lands.

Tears unnumbered ye shall shed; and the Valar will fence Valinor against you, and shut you out, so that not even the echo of your lamentation shall pass over the mountains...

The words of doom proclaimed by Mandos still echoed in the back of Fingolfin's mind. He looked out towards the Land of Shadow, Angband, where the Enemy lay hidden, in a ring of long lasting siege maintained by the Noldor. He felt his hand clench into a fist, a sudden vision of jumping on his horse and riding towards the Lands of Shadow in front of a great Elven host, and doing deeds that will be sung in ages to come. He deemed that the strength of the Noldor, Sindar, combined with the strong and able hands of the Edain was still very great and could threaten the Dark Lord. He looked again in the direction of Angband. The dark clouds on the horizon looked menacing and ever an anon a searing light flashed in the distance, reminding of the threat of war.

What is the Enemy planning? Why is everything so still and quiet? This feeling of foreboding and unrest was more and more often troubling the High King. He sent out word to the other Noldor princes to gather their forces once more, make the unpopular choice of bringing the fight to the Enemy, but it has been rejected. So few wished to go to war again, while the majority felt content with how things were. However, Fingolfin knew in his heart that time was running short, and if the Dark Lord was left unchecked, He surely will arise one day in a sudden and catastrophic onslaught that might sweep them away, bringing ruin to Beleriand and its people. This was Fingolfin's greatest fear, but how could he motivate the Noldor princes to take up arms before it was too late?

With these thoughts High King Fingolfin left the terrace seeking to get news from his son, Fingon, who was stationed closest to the borders of the Land of Shadow...

Good start lads, it's nice to see people wanting events such as Fingolfin vs Morgoth etc.. it will only make the hotseat more interesting.

Speaking of events if I remember correctly I believe there's one that spawns Gothmog in the northern entrance of Gondolin which should be fun

Perhaps Maeglin will meet his end before his jealously can lead to betrayal or maybe his wish will be granted and he will wed the Kings daughter..

Tears unnumbered had been shed. Tears beyond count. Maedhros has cried tears beyond comprehension. As the oldest son, he was the first to swear the Oath of Fëanor, vowing to reclaim the Silmarils no matter who held them or at what cost. He had cried when he followed his father into Middle-Earth after Finwë was slain by Morgoth, the greatest enemy. He had followed his father when they came to the Teleri, begging for ships. Oh, how he cried that night. They would not grant Fëanor the ships, so he took them by force. A night with tears beyond counts. The kinslaying, where elf fought elf and all wept. Maedhros too fought in the kinslaying, for the vow was terrible. However, he alone would not burn the ships. Maedhros was bound by the oath, but nonetheless wanted friendship amongst his kind.

Despite tears unnumbered, friendship was not all gone. After Fëanor died, Maedhros had come to parley with Morgoth, to reclaim the Silmarils and see Morgoth surrender. That night, he had been betrayed and captured. He was held prisoner for 30 years, until finally Fingon saved him. However, he paid a terrible price. His hand was chained and could not be freed, so it was cut off. To try to make things right Maedhros relinquished his kingship, and passed it to Fingolgfin. The other brothers of Fëanor, being much like their father in their temper, did not take this lightly. However, Maedhros argued with them, and claimed his action to be righteous, as Fingolfin was the oldest living son of Finwë. To protect his people form further feud, he led his people to Himring, where he settled. He hoped the distance would prevent hostilities between his people and Fingolfins, as there was much jealousy amongst the sons of Fëanor.

There was another reason for settling in Himring. After losing his right hand in captivity, and not being able to forget his torment, he became a brilliant swordsman with his left. He had nothing more to live for but his hate for Morgoth and the Oath, which ever led him on. Thus, he wished to be first in the line of attack should Morgoth sweep down from Angbad.

Now, Maedhros is conflicted. He has his friendship with Fingolfing, and his love for his family. He wished for peace. Though the Oath drove him on. He cried. He was sure he would cry more. Staring north from his tower in Himring, he hoped for only one thing. Death. Death in battle facing Morgoth, freeing him from the Oath and giving him vengeance over the terrible enemy. He cried. The longer he lived on, the more he would be influenced by his brothers, who wished for war more than anything. Maedhros sat down, and waited. Assessing the terrible world he had been partly cause of, he cried.

Bór had come from the east. Driven out of need for his people, and fear of the dark lord. Hatred of Morgoth, the terrible enemy. The orcs had burned his land, he would do anything to protect it. After coming into the land north of Himring, he had met Maedhros, a great elven king. In their mutual hatred of Morgoth, he had been given land, where his people could live safely. At least, until Morgoth would attack. He was just a man, amazed by the elves and terrified of the evil. When the time came, he knew he would do what needed to be done. He would fight with Maedhros and the sons of Fëanor, for the evil must be slain. For his people. For all people. He would fight. He ordered his sword to be sharpened. He ordered armour to be made, and the men to prepare. He would march to war. To protect his people. he was no noble elf. He lacked their elegance and their skill. But he was a staunch man leading staunch men. Bór would fight.

As a LOTR nerd , I am often asked about the first age , and the connection with the third age [since the film] , I will give a rough summary of what has gone before ,one as a general idea of plot and another of the major battles that have been been fought before, at least in regard to the general outline where Feanor ,[the creator of the similarians has them stolen by Morgoth and he swears eternal vengeance to retrieve the precious jewels. Feanor , his house and those that followed that made the great journey over the sea , for some over the ice to middle earth to reclaim the jewels that were stolen by Dark Lord. Note that Sauron is around at this time , but is a lieutenant of Morgoth's army which rather shows the strength of the foes , those of the first-born will be striving against.

[The Silmarils (or Silmarilli), also known as the Jewels of Fëanor, were gems crafted by Fëanor from some essence of the Two Trees of Valinor; Laurelin and Telperion, before the First Age which were killed off by Ungoliant[Giant spider predecessor of Shelob] They were among the most prized of all the wonders crafted by the elves and were coveted by many. It was said that the fate of Arda was woven about the Silmarils.]

For those that know the history well , forgive my indulgence to go over some of the battles that most of us , lotr nerds known well , but it will act as a bridge for those that don't know the stories , and give them some background into what is happening here in middle earth at this time. I do encourage those that haven't read the Silmarillion and Lost Tales to do so , if you found the films inspiring , for that will give you more background into the struggles that have gone before and those that will come after, although they are not easy reads.

Also I enclose here a map , which I hope also help's locate where roughly the struggle[features what has been lost as opposed to that what remains for the third age films locations], that is the first age is talking place, for the land of Beleriand [at the time of the movie] is long since departed below the waves , which was destroyed by the Valar [kinda angels/gods figures] who live in the "Undying lands" who finally take a hand against the power of Melkor or Morgoth (Sindarin; "Black Foe of the World") who is the main protagonist in the struggle [who was the first of these angels/minor gods who similar to the story of satan/Lucifer and turns to the darkside]

It would equally be a good thing, to perhaps review Jadli's appraisal of the factions and there individual tales [#1] about Feanor , his house and those that followed as they return to middle earth to reclaim the jewels that were stolen by melkor . So far in the current story, his countrymen surround melkors lands in siege , as he was just too strong to win back the jewels and so they waited patiently , building there strength for the opportunity to do so.......

    What has gone before {play suitable hobbit music here }

First Battle of Beleriand [which is relevant for Doriath faction ]

While the Ñoldor were still struggling in Aman, Morgoth had already arrived in Middle-earth well ahead of them, and quickly reoccupied his old fortress of Angband where his servants Sauron and Gothmog had long been breeding Orcs in the darkness. Morgoth moved quickly to resume his desire to conquer and dominate the peoples of Middle-earth and sent forth his armies hoping to master all the areas south of his domain quickly. Morgoth's forces issued forth in two main hosts, passing west through the vale of Sirion and east between Aros and Gelion, some of them even scaling the passes of Anach and Aglon.

Well-armed having defended the Beleriand from the evil and savage things of the north, King Thingol were prepared for war but faced setbacks. The western Orc host ravaged and plundered much in the West Beleriand. Lord Círdan of the Havens of the Falas came out to meet them but was defeated and forced to retreat into the walled cities of Eglarest and Brithombar, were they were besieged. Thus, the forces of Thingol were cut-off from their Elven allies in the west.

Detachments of both Orc hosts entered the domain of Thingol and Menegroth, Thingol's forces fought and held them at bay but his main focus was on the bulk of the eastern Orc host fighting his hard-pressed ally, King Denethor [*] of the Laiquendi. Denethor, who answered Thingol's call for aid attacked the Orcs but he and his people were lightly armed and were no match for the arms of their foes. Eventually, he and his forces were pushed back onto Amon Ereb where they were cut-off and surrounded. Here, Denethor and his lightly armed company made their last stand against a sea of foes and he was slain before Thingol could rescue him. When Thingol's forces arrived, the Orcs stood no chance and were utterly defeated. Those Orcs that did escape death scattered east but were slain by the Dwarves of Mount Dolmed. The battle was over and the armies of Thingol stood victorious over Morgoth's forces in the East Beleriand. This was the only battle against the Dark Lord in which the Sindar took an active role .

Thought battle was held to be over, the cities of the Havens remained under siege by the forces of the Western Orc host. After learning of this, Thingol summoned all the Sindar that wished to live in peace to the lands within the forests of Region and Neldoreth. Melian then set forth her powers and afterwards the lands of Thingol became a closed realm and was put under protection by the magical barrier Girdle of Melian, which were ever after known as Doriath.

As no aid came from Thingol, Lord Círdan and his people had to hold out against his attackers alone. The Havens were only freed when the Orcs withdrew northeast to fight the Ñoldor under Fëanor. After the death of their king and the heavy losses they took during battle, the Laiquendi returned to the forests of the Ossiriand. There they pledged to live in secrecy forsaking war and distrusting outsiders. They never again named a king. Many Laiquendi went north entering the land of Doriath and were forever merged with his people.

[The First Battle was fought when Morgoth sent two armies of Orcs down into Beleriand, one in the west and one in the east, in a time before the Return of the Noldor.

    (1) The eastern army pushes southwards and defeats the Laiquendi at Amon Ereb, slaying their leader Denethor.
    (2) Thingol's forces out of Doriath meet the eastern Orcs in the rear.
    (3) The eastern Orcs are finally defeated north of the Andram, and flee back towards the North.
    (4) The fleeing remnant of the eastern army of Orcs is set upon by Dwarves out of the Blue Mountains, and almost completely destroyed.
    (5) The western army of Orcs is almost unopposed. Driving Círdan into his Havens, elsewhere they roam freely through West Beleriand. ]

[*]Note : Denethor{not the one you think, this name gets used all over] - Denethor was the son of the Nandor Elf leader Lenwë (or Dan), who lived during the Years of the Trees. Hearing of the power of Thingol, Denethor led many of his people over the Blue Mountains to Beleriand. They settled in Ossiriand, renaming it Lindon, in the east of Beleriand, and Denethor became their king. They were called the Laiquendi, or Green-elves. Some time later after his return from Aman, Morgoth loosed an army on Beleriand beginning the First Battle. The lightly-armed Laiquendi were driven back to the great hill of Amon Ereb, where Denethor was slain. The Laiquendi became a reclusive people, seldom taking up arms, and never again naming a king.

Dagor-nuin-Giliath or the Battle Under the Stars

The Dagor-nuin-Giliath or the Battle Under the Stars was the second major battle of the War of the Jewels in Beleriand but the first to be fought by the exiled Ñoldor of the Beleriand.

The battle began when the Ñoldor of Fëanor arrived unexpectedly at the Firth of Drengist, and passed through the Gate of the Noldor into Hithlum. They encamped on the northern shore of Lake Mithrim. Morgoth hoped to destroy the returning Ñoldor before they could establish themselves, and sent his forces through the passes of the Ered Wethrin. Although the Orcs of Morgoth by far outnumbered the Ñoldor, the Ñoldor were still empowered with the Light of Valinor, and quickly defeated them. The Orcs retreated north through Ard-galen, with the Ñoldor in hot pursuit.

    [Fall of Fëanor against Gothmog]

The forces of Morgoth that had been besieging the Havens of the Falas since the First Battle of Beleriand marched north to attack the Ñoldor in the rear, but a force led by Celegorm ambushed them at Eithel Sirion. Trapped between the two Ñoldorin forces, the Orcs fought for ten days, encircled at the Fens of Serech. All but a few Orcs perished in the battle, and Fëanor in his wrath pursued even this small group. But he drew too far ahead of the main host of his people, and seeing this, the Orcs turned and gave battle at the edge of Dor Daedeloth. Being virtually at Angband's gates, the Orcs were joined by a number of Balrogs, and the Elves were quickly slain. Fëanor stood his ground and long fought alone, until he was fatally wounded by Gothmog. However, before the Balrogs could kill him, Fëanor was rescued by his sons. Fëanor would die soon afterwards due to his wounds.

Immediately following this skirmish, the Moon rose, and with its rising Fingolfin and the second, greater host of the Ñoldor arrived in Lhammoth. There they were attacked by a force of Orcs which had earlier been sent there by Morgoth to attack Fëanor in the rear, and they fought their first battle, the Battle of Lhammoth. The Ñoldor were caught off-guard, and Fingolfin's son Argon was slain. Fingolfin and his host pursued the Orcs until they were completely destroyed, and then passed into Mithrim as the Moon first rose.

The victory was decisive for the Ñoldor, who had destroyed most of Morgoth's forces in one mortal strike, but they had lost their greatest war-leader and one of their greatest princes.

[key for the numers on the battle map below :-
    (1) Orcs of Morgoth launch a surprise attack on the Noldor encamped on the shores of Lake Mithrim. A great battle is fought in Mithrim, in which the Elves are victorious.
    (2) The Orcs flee across the mountains, with the Noldor in pursuit.
    (3) A second army of Orcs comes up from the south to join those fleeing the battle.
    (4) Celegorm son of Fëanor drives the enemy force into the Fen of Serech and destroys it.

    (5) Fëanor himself pursues fleeing Orcs into the North, where he is met by a force of Balrogs and mortally wounded. ]

    Dagor Aglareb [the Glorious Battle]

After the Dagor-nuin-Giliath, the Ñoldor of Beleriand had been on the brink of civil war. The host of Fingolfin, which had been betrayed by Fëanor in Aman, had managed the near-impossible crossing of the Helcaraxë and had arrived in Middle-earth, its members bitter and furious. However, after being rescued by Fingon from captivity, Feanor's eldest son Maedhros had relinquished any claim to the Kingship of the Ñoldor to Fingolfin, to whom it should have passed regardless. This act united the Ñoldor and allowed them to establish mighty kingdoms in Middle-earth while Morgoth's forces still reeled from the unveiling of the light of the Sun and the Moon.

Eventually however, Morgoth's forces overcame their fear of these new lights, and the Iron Mountains spewed forth fire as Morgoth sent forth numerous small bands of Orcs, which passed through the Pass of Sirion and Maglor's Gap. Fighting small battles along the way, they penetrated deep in West and East Beleriand, where they were destroyed by southern forces of the Ñoldor and Elves under Círdan of the Falas.

Doriath was shut and its people refused to fight, and the Laiquendi of Ossiriand fought no more battles after their leader had been killed in the First Battle of Beleriand. Meanwhile, the main force of the Orcs spewed forth from Angband to Dorthonion, where the twins Angrod and Aegnor held them off until armies under Fingolfin and Maedhros counter-attacked on the plains of Lothlann and Ard-galen, trapping the Orcs between them. There was an envelopment and the Orcs were caught in the vice of Fingolfin from the west and Maedhros from the east. Most Orcs were destroyed, and they retreated to Angband. The Ñoldor pursued, and utterly destroyed their enemies in sight of the gates of Angband. This was the first complete victory over Morgoth, and after it the Ñoldor maintained a guard on Angband, beginning the period of watchful peace known as the Siege of Angband.

Now fully updated...I shall do a brief summary of my lands..

    ---------------------------

    Doriath

Doriath (S. "Land of the Fence"; "Dor lath") referred to the Girdle of Melian, earlier called Eglador; the kingdom of Thingol and Melian in the forests of Neldoreth and Region, ruled from Menegroth on the river Esgalduin. Also called the Hidden Kingdom and the Guarded Realm.

The mighty forest kingdom of Elu Thingol, greatest of the realms of the Sindar in Beleriand. The kingdom lay in two parts, separated by the River Esgalduin: the lesser, northwestern Forest of Neldoreth, and the greater, southern Forest of Region. These forests, and the small oakwood known as Nivrim on the western banks of the Sirion, were encompassed by the Girdle of Melian, which protected the land from its enemies.

In the midst of Doriath, carved into the rock beside the River Esgalduin, lay the Halls of Menegroth, the Thousand Caves, citadel of King Thingol and Melian his queen.

Doriath was located in the middle of Beleriand, between Ered Gorgoroth (Mountains of Terror) from the north and the Andram from south, and Talath Dirnen from the west, and Estolad from the east. It was a realm of forests about the great river Sirion; within it were the forests Neldoreth (also Taur-na-Neldor, the northern beech forest), Nivrim (also West-march, an oak forest), and Region (pronounced Reh-gi-on, the main forest). Additionally, the forests of Brethil and Nan Elmoth were considered to be under the influence of Thingol, though not under his direct command and laying outside of the Girdle of Melian. Eöl the Dark Elf leased Nan Elmoth from Thingol, having paid with the sword Anglachel. The People of Haleth, or the Haladin, lived in Brethil with the permission of Thingol. They governed themselves, but cooperated with the march-wardens of Doriath. King Elu Thingol of Doriath, also High King of the Sindar, saw all of Beleriand as his realm, from the Gelion to the Belegaer (the Sea).

When the Ñoldor returned to Middle-earth at the beginning of the First Age, Thingol refused to allow them in Doriath, with the exception of the children of Finarfin, who were related to him by his brother Olwë. When later Men arrived in Beleriand, they were also refused entry, but at Finrod's request the Haladin gives his permission for the People of Haleth to dwell in Brethil, who ally themselves with Doriath and aid them in its defense.

    Girdle of Melian

The Girdle of Melian was raised by Melian shortly after the First Battle of Beleriand to ensure that Doriath remain untouched by the forces of the enemy. When the Ñoldor returned to Middle-earth from the West, Thingol sought to bar them from settlement in the lands of the Sindar and would only permit guests into Doriath through the barrier. After learning of the Kinslaying of Alqualondë, Thingol forbade all Ñoldor, save for those of the House of Finarfin his kin from entering the realm through the barrier.

The Girdle of Melian (also known as Veil of Melian or simply the Veil) was an enchanted barrier surrounding the realm of Doriath throughout much of its existence, created by its namesake, the Maia and Queen Melian.

The Girdle enclosed the three forests of Neldoreth, Region, Nivrim and part of the land of Aelin-uial.All those who attempted to pass through it became enmeshed and wandered aimlessly as if lost in an impossible maze of trees, placing them in a situation where their food would eventually run out and they would die. The Girdle also protected Doriath from the dark influence and prying eyes of Morgoth, similar to the way Galadriel used Nenya to protect Lothlórien from Sauron.

Only those permitted by Thingol or Melian, or with power greater than Melian, could successfully navigate through it. The only recorded two to have passed through against her will were Beren and Carcharoth.

    {I will break down my background/lore to areas and characters into 2 part's and deal with King Thingol , his wife ... Melian and their daughter Lúthien , and their capital Menegroth on the next episode [of which much is said].., rather than bore all with too much lore }

    ----------------{my turn}----------------------

Thingol sat with Melain , in the throne room of Menegroth, a little dismayed at what his queen was telling him of her new visions of pain and suffering in the north , and such things that would come to pass, and held a hand over his brow in deep worry and thought. As his wife , explained in greater detail of the struggles to come, Thingol brow grew deeper with lines of worry and stress at the thought of helping his erstwhile cousins in the north which nearly became a option he would take, as his kin strove ever northwards in their wraith to obtain the jewels of their famed now deceased father.

[The elf lord meets the Goddess Melian in the forest of Nan Elmoth , beginning one of the best love stories in Tolkiens world]

The shear thought of Feanor and his descendants however , brought back the ill memories and stories, that were told of the kin-slaying of his brethren , the Teleri , who were living peaceably in the undying lands , and his mood changed from fear to annoyance , at thinking of helping those betrayers of old , who could stew in the juices of their own making.

Thingol was a great elf lord, who had seen his fair share of combat at the hordes of Morgorth {see First war of Beleriand above} and had no wish to spend his life or the lifes of his kin or people , in defending the like of those butchers. Although Thingol was great in spirit and wisdom , one flaw , was that a slight once given , was not easily forgotten , and he continued to rage at the injustice of the acts , of the sons of Feanor in the north , until his fair wife , Melian calmed his temperament , with a gentle touch of her hand on his, to sooth his rage, as she often had to, in these new days of worry.

Melian noted that the Girdle held fast at this time however and used this fact to divert Thingol with confidence , and that little threatened the Doriath Kingdom for the present, but Thingol noting his kin-ship and friendship with the both Círdan the Shipwright ,lord of the Falas, and the kingdom of Finrod Felagund at Nargothrond ,as both were not fans of the Feanor's policies of folly.Cheered from the confidence that Melian , passed to him , he wrote both of his kin, messages hoping their friendship and influence could strengthen further, the safety of his own kingdom which hid behind the Girdle .
