Nargothrond and the House of Bëor

The Dragon is dead! A massive blow to the Black Foe under Thangorodrim. The time to mourn the fallen would come later. Now Elves and Men rejoiced and joined together in celebration. Lamps of captured starlight were hung throughout the entire city as a sign of hope. The Elves of Nargothrond sung and danced for more than a week and there was much merrymaking. Messengers were sent across Beleriand heralding the Dragon's death. A solid victory for the forces of the Light!

Morgoth roared in anger and rage as he recieved the news of the mighty Glaurung's death One of his most prized creations had been destroyed. The Dark Lord had felt something else as well....something he had not felt in a long time....a taint of fear. His armies still moved unhindered south and there was news of a recent victory against the House of Marach in the west. The host of Faenor was on its last legs for all of their lands have been ravaged and destroyed. But this could overshadow the loss of Glaurung....

The dark lord dissapeared into the deepest pits of Angband......for what purpose....perhaps to breed a new lord of dragons as a replacement....or something worse....

To the northwest, Balrogs with their armies scoured the Forests of Brethil , for remaining Men of Haldad who still tried to make a living there, whilst the elfs of Doriath re-secured their own defenses, as great change was perhaps in the world. The dragon was dead, and the elfs of the southeast were feeling their strength. For the peoples of Doriath , there was a slow unease, as a Host of Feanor arrived in the south and made camp on their borders, a spy of Feanors host was found inside the girdle, and Thingols paranoia about the gift he carried ordered this spies immediate execution, lest the spy was probing for weak points in their defenses and his gift be threatened.

Equally to the south a force , commanded by Ulfang's leader and his heir moved westwards threatening one of the mens towns , now commanded by the elfs of Doriath and the men , provided a small force of Axeman asking the elfs to repel the invasion of these men that now worshiped Morgoth and throw them back, Beleg looked the men and women of the town ,saying he would try, then marched out with his small companies , accompanied by the small force of axemen from the town.

    --------------

Bellrauthien , the spy from the host of Feanor moved though the forest of Doriath , cursing the density of the woods, the woods seemed very much alive as if the trees spoke to each other, and it was always moving. Noises assorted his hearing from all sides, and it was only by blocking out the majority of them, that enabled him to make some progress of movement in these damned woods. Such was the thinking of the elf from Feanors host, as a figure dropped from the trees above him , digging both of his twin daggers into his back, as the assassin landed on the elf of feanor, as the assassin, lightning quick , drew out one of his daggers from the elfves back, transferring it to the elfes throat.

A scream echoed out in the forest, and then all was quiet [or as quiet] as it should be in the forest of doriath , as the woodland creatures began their songs of movement, as the daily toil of their existence, moved on as normal without disruption from outside.

The convoy of troops moved slowly along the road, just approaching the small patch of forest, barely a few leagues away from the town of Dimrost, the catapalts and ballista with the forces of the Loke Khan and his son, moved only as slow as its slowest company, and the artillery baggage train could move slow indeed, slowing the advancement of his troops down the road. The rest of his men, were barely scratch companies left, with most the men, whittled down in the various battles in the east, and not really needed at full strength to regain Dimrost, a small insignificant town in the middle of nowhere , which was to be forced to bow at his feet once again.

The light of the sky grew first red , then dark as the sun began to set, and the khan pushed his troops to move a little father before the light completely fled, so that his small force would be in range of Dimrost , for the next day, but he was surprised when one of his men pointed to the sight up ahead, as the men of Dimrost, axes in hand had blocked the road, with a slight barricade .

The khan signaled that some of his men should light torches just in case there would be a need for combat, but he hoped to make this rebellious men see sense first, so he nodded to his son, to ready the men for a fight, with the catapult and ballista crew adjusting their machines of war reading for a fight, just in case, as he himself moved forward.

"Come now, will you now see sense? This is the time of men! Morgoth stands tall!... as the first born run from his might! Will you not now relent and bend the knee to my rule?", called out the khan , as his horse shuffled uneasily in the night.

There was a brief pause as the men of Dimrost looked at each , with finally one of them being nominated to speak.

"Get you gone from this place and bother us no more! More worthier people are we , from being free of your dominion!", said the speaker.

"Fools!" , cried the Khan, "The elfs of Doriath retreat and hide in the forest behind the skirts of Melian, their time has gone! ...You will learn your place is to kneel to my power! or to be food for the crows!", once finished talking he rode back a little moving behind the men of Ulfang that prepared to fight. The catapult and ballista opened fire, with the rock from the catapult somewhat striking the barricade, tearing a hole into its defenses and scattering more than a couple of the defenders to take cover . Ballista bolts struck down a few of the axemen , one of them being shot backwards from the force of the bolt, until a nearby tree trunk stopped its momentum pinning the unfortunate man to the tree.

"Break them! make them kneel to their new lord! The elfves have deserted them , they have all fled and left you to rot!", cried the khan , who was starting to spittle in his rage, directing his men , forward as the ulfang warriors surged towards the axemen, who met them at what was left of the barricade as a fierce hand to hand combat started .

"Some stayed behind!" , cried out a voice from the darkness , seemingly from eitherside of them , "..and they are proud to fight alongside men!" , after this last shout, elfven spear warriors came out of the edge of light forest to eitherside of them , spearpoints gleaming. A small company of silvan warriors armored in a form of leaf mail, also moved amongst the attackers, with Beleg at the fore, as he lead the charge of the ambushing silvan warriors into the midst of the Ulfang warriors. The Ulfang attack on the barricade was pulled back , as the forces of the men formed a rough circle trying to keep the elfs at bay, and they succeeded at this formation until the Men of Dimrost surged forward, hate in the hearts against those who had struck down neighbours and friends. The men of Ulfand , sent a few heavily clad, men shielded to block their way, but one axemen, his eyes wide, cleaved one of the shields in two with one heavy blow, and then kicked out ,felling his opponent who collasped to the ground, [to be later trampled by the advance] and then hurled himself bodily at the other. The ulfang man blocked the blow, but couldnt stop the mass of the heavy set axeman who had put his whole body behind it, leaving both opponents to fall the floor in a joint heap. With the blockers removed the axmen of Dimrost sallied foward , into the midst of the Ulfangs, axes flashing out left and right, and the defences of Ulfang fell. The heir of the khan took his fathers rein's as he was still raging at the men of Dimrost and the elfs, and together with their bodyguard they rode from the ambush, escaping out into the night, with more than a couple of the bodyguard falling to elven spears. The rest of the Ulfang force seeing the leader depart, dropped their weapons and ran for their lifes, leaving Dimrost free of their rule , for the moment.

    Sorry didnt make last post.

So, the forces were waiting and were able to come from the trees and attack the evil forces. There were able to get a good result!

Up north, the 2 cities that were taken the previous turn from the elves that linger there were seiged.... the 2 generals, one in each city. They had no hope, and knew that their journey had come to an end... this was very sad. While one remained inside, waiting for the eventual killing, the other one made a death charge, to show his adoptive father one last act of bravery, bravery that was suicidal, much like faramir one. the elven died or got so injured that the enemy were able to take the city with death or placing the once elven population in any more harm

The elves awaited their move, in the meantime the units that linger in the north, took a city, and as they took they also repaired the walls that were broken and that enabled them to just walk in and kill the orcs inside.

    The repair was expensive....

Nevertheless they wish to eventually give that city to Doriath protections, as its to far from their homeland to effectively protect it

    Ulfgang army got slammed https://imgur.com/a/jhw2w7P

The last host of Fëanor, led by High Lord Curufin and his brother Caranthir has arrived at the borders of Doriath. They have have already engaged the Sindar elves guarding the Girdle of Melian, and will soon break through them. In the midst of fighting, Curufin raised his voice so that no ears were left out from hearing his message.

I am Curufin, High Lord of the House of Fëanor and the eldest son to my father. I demand that our family's heirloom, the Silmaril, will be returned to its rightful owners, to the Ñoldor. Centuries ago I made an oath to slay all who would stand against us from retrieving all three Silmarils, stolen by the Dark Foe Morgoth.

Then he began to speak to Thingol himself, as if The King were there right in front of him. His eyes were on fire and his voice was filled with shattering pain and agony, while still being as loud and hateful as the rage of a dragon. All the fighting stopped and all faces were turned on Curufin, who slowly walked forward towards the defenders as he spoke.

Hear me Thingol! Your lowly Sindar people can not save you. Give me the Silmaril and we will leave your lands for good. Fail to do this and pay with the blood of your people!
Once before we have slayed our own people, The Quendi. You remember the city of your brother Olwë, who dared stand against my father. You know of the massacre at Alqualondë and the lengths we will go to retrieve the Silmarils. I will not hesitate to slaughter every single on of you to honor my oath! You are nothing to me but......"

Suddenly an arrow was sprung from a bow, and it found its mark on Curufin's chest. His voice was silenced, and he dropped down to his right knee, gasping for air. Caranthir ran to his brother, who in his zeal had walked away from the safety of his bodyguards. The next arrow was blocked by Caranthir's shield, and he let Curufin grab his shoulder while the two of them retreated back to their lines. The fighting had already begun again, and the outnumbered defenders were surrounded.

Curufin's speech was not in vain, for soon it was heard as far as Menegroth. Melian's birds had informed her of these new tidings, and it was not long before the news reached Thingol himself.

Reports and spies showed that the two forces of morgoths armies had moved northeastwards after retaking the forest of brethil's territories, and moved trying to find the location of Gondolin's hidden city, whilst this was going on, Queen Melian ordered the local commander, Lord Malbung to advance and retake what he could, of the mens settlements to again , give them back to the house of haldad , and return what was promised. Lord Malbung formed a small battlegroup of select elfs, some rangers, some local forces and even a few of the kings guard, and they stormed Drugobel after two spies had moved inside and dismounted the gates. Losses where slight and only the final fight in the lords hall proved heavy but a score of elfs dying to the last resistance there had nowhere to run too , and they fought hard like dogs backed into a corner.

In the south however, the Sons of Feanor, Curufin and Carathir arrived at the border of the girdle of Melian, and engaged with the border patrol there. Whilst the queen Melian was away , visiting a settlement and forest to the west, and helping to arrange supplies to erstwhile allies that had visited to the west near Amon Rudh, King Thingol took control of the situation in the south and sent a message to the Curufin and Carthir.

Come now! Let us not revisit the past and have the firstborn fight each other? Surely Morgoth would laugh to see such a thing?!
I give you leave to enter and visit Menegroth and take part in the bounty that our capital might provide you and your troops , and give you gifts at your leaving, if you put down your swords and let us talk this matter over?

But if you kill those of Doriath that guard our border, then we shall fight you, and raise our banner as we can, and your little strength that you have, will not avail you? Will you enter our lands fairly and freely and travel to the north , sheath you blades, come forth and let us, talk this out , as but those of the eldar should?

If you think me to be , perhaps untrustworthy in our dealings, we could have the nearby dwarfven ambassador oversee such a meeting at Menegroth and provide a neutral overseerer of our talks?

    What say you?
