Default Is Gaul really worth it?

For the first time, after numerous new starts and update tests, I finally completed a conquest of Macedonia and Asia. So the next mission is revealed: conquest of Gaul. That is a big order, and for what? A measly 10,000? And look at all the negatives to my faction for the effort.

    Not an attractive offer.

Yeah when I first saw that I found it a bit ridiculous. I can understand some negative effects such as integrity and maybe loyalty, but the massive debuff to PO and for 150 turns no less? It basically discouraged me from expanding, which is the opposite of what I think objectives should do.

well i m taking my time on my campaign but this isa bit discouraging XD. That won't really affect me since all my taces are at normal value and the PO value on my provinces is quite high, but it is still annoying hummmmmm. Maybe it was a mistake and will be fixed? Only thing that annoys me when you reach Supreme power is having -1 loyalty to all your generals.... meh, good thing is i m fighting 5/6 battles each turn so my leader has a lot of politicla power and my power house the same.

Well this is meh, I would like to finally play a long campaign and since there are really fast updates and most of them require campaign restart how can I do it? I wanted to start fresh with an „e“ patch but now I see this bug (possible?) and elepants bug (possible?). Is there any way how to disable automatic updates? Or how to play long term without updates f.cking up my save? Thank you in advance.

You do not seem to understand that you are play testing a game in development. You can play a role in the development of the mod by offering ideas, criticisms, or just general observations. The developers listen to us.

I speak for nobody but myself. You did ask a question. My answer your question: if you do not care to play a role in the game's development, you might want to come back when it is a finished work.

You might be surprised, but I do know this is a game in development. However, I'm not sure if you do understand that some of us don't have time to play all day, every day. Resulting in that I can not pass 30 turns before new update which leads to starting again (most of the times). So unless there are bugs or any ideas in those 30 turns There is not much more I can do...

    Oh... cool

We always talked about having the conquest of Gaul trigger a full on rebellion of the entire region, guess someone added that in .

On a more serious note, this might need redoing a little, maybe a short burst to PO but an increase to unit recruitment and decrease of costs for say... 6 turns? Could be fun.

Edit: just talked to Sheridan, he's already seen the thread and adjusted the values to compensate.

Personally, I think some of the negative effects should be reversed. For example: maybe +10 to public order but drastically reduced political support, -15% or more, to simulate the Senate being opposed to you. You could also increase the debuff loyalty to show non-family characters being jealous or fearful of your ambitions and make it more likely they'll turn on you and start a civil war.

That sounds good. Were the plebs upset with Gaius Julius when he conquered Gaul? Was the manner of his return controversial to them? Or was it just the Senate who were angry? Give a big one time hit in the Senate (40% of current support) and maybe deduct 4 points from loyalty from ever general/governor except family or in Gaul itself?

Personally I'd rather see debuffs like this added with the Imperium level or the new fame system. Seems a bit arbitrary for problems to occur with Gaul, effectively forces the player down the historical route.

Surely the whole point of AE is to forge your own history, so you should be at risk of problems like happening wherever you go. PO debuffs, loyalty drops, risks of rebellion add some flavour to the game, I'd like to see the chance of having my own version of the Wars of the Triumvirate or Crisis of the Third Century.

Makes the game more interesting if you have to divert from the methodical process of conquering to deal with sudden internal problems. Just don't link them to a single objective, thus giving the player a massive heads up that they are coming and how to avoid them.

I like the idea, pro for me is that it makes a more interesting campaign where you have to manage internal shifts in PO and power, not just get to a comfortable situation and keep growing as in most TW games.

Although I think linking it directly to Gaul and making it predictable detracts from that a bit. It's too easy to avoid, you can just go off and conquer Africa, Egypt, Anatolia, Iberia, Dacia etc and get lots of land and power whilst dodging any problems.

Could maybe link the PO problems to controlling a set number of fully provinces instead? Maybe nine or ten, so once you reach a certain size you hit challenges whichever direction you expand in. Or link it to Imperium / fame levels so it's a bit harder to control when problems occur. That way everyone will get their Caesar's Civil War moment, but it won't be easy to predict.

Well, preferably we'd have some sort of event with a dilemma than a straight effect applied. But we need scripters and time for that.
