other than the wicker shield pajama infantry from Rome total war?
thinking about playing a game as them but Im afraid to not have access to any infantry in the late game. Do they get greek AOR units?

Please no! I think it's great that Parthia has to use AoE so extensively. I makes it really feel different to all the other factions - you get amazing and relatively cheap cavalry, but you need to rely on all the diverse peoples of your empire to provide the solid backbone of your army.
Philip sent me off to go find references to Parthian Infantry. So far I've had no real luck unfortunately. There are references to the Saka's, Sogdians and other horse tribes having 'warriors' but whether this means infantry is unclear to me. I'll keep looking but if anyone has some sources please do share them here![]()
Vespasian's own: Up the Augusta! For Cato!
AE: Battle Balancing and BAI.
While researching the Parthian roster i read everything i could find online in addition to 4 books on Parthia. The one i mostly based my roster on was Shadows in the Desert (Ancient Persia at War) by Dr Kaveh Farrokh. I had a starting roster of Dahae units, but since Ancient Empires starts after formation of the Parthian Empire we will skip that. Probably still need some AOR Dahae units but i don't think they were a major component of the Parthian army by this point. There were a couple Parthian infantry units, but they largely would rely on Persian AOR units. I can find you more of my sources later, but for now here is what i came up with.
starting roster
Parthian horse archer (bow/sword)
Parthian skirmisher cavalry (javelins,sword)
Parthian nobles (lance, bow, scale armor)
Parthian general (same as nobles but horse now also has some armor)
Parthian spearmen (spear, shield, short sword or axe)
Parthian foot archer (bow, sword or axe)
Parthian swordsmen (sword, round shield) this unit said to be rare and ineffective
Reform units
Parthian horse archer (late) (improved bow, sword) replaces early horse archer
Parthian cataphract archer (improved bow, sword)
Parthian cataphract (lance,sword)
Parthian noble cataphract/general (lance, sword) heavier armor and more skilled
Parthohellenic thureophoroi (sword, shield, maybe javelins or spear)
Persian AOR (source of most infantry and garrisons)
Persian skirmishers (javelins, pelte, spear or dagger)
Persian slinger (slinge, pelte,dagger)
Persian archer (bow, short sword)
Persian archer-spearmen (bow,spear, pelte)
Sparbara (spear, retangular shield)
Takabara (axe, shield, maybe javelins)
Kardakes spearmen (spear,sword, round shield)

No problem. I have work in progress rosters for every faction. I had been trying to create a Hellenistic mod for M2TW by myself, but halfway through my computer crashed and i lost the mod. Only the research was left. Soon after EB2 started making progress and i got sidetracked into the history research for its own sake. My main project now is a Google Earth map with location and information on ever settlement in the area covered by the Rome era Total War games. I can look into Pergamon and any other faction you want more on.
I'm still working on Pergamon now. Its a bit complicated by the controversy over how late hoplite were used. My mod work is set around 280 bc so it will take a bit of adjusting to this later timeframe. It was easy with Parthians because i had a reform at the start of the Parthian Empire, which was just before the start of AE.
As for Media Atropatene.... I actually don't have a roster for them since they weren't a playable faction in my mod. I haven't read much on them either, but the base of the population was still Medians which i have read plenty on. So their roster will likely be similar to Parthia as its based on cavalry with weaker native infantry and reliance on AOR and mercs. I think there was a heavy Median foot archer. Their cavalry will focus on mele more than ranged compared to Parthia. I think some of the books i got for Parthia had chapters on Atropatene too. So i'll do some more reading up on them and come up with suggestions.

the parthohellic Thureophoroi was the unit I was looking for. I just would like a medicore to crappy unit I can throw at walls. But I started a campaign and have found it more fun and challenging to force the ai to either face me in the field or starve them out without assaulting.
I will try to phase in these Parthian units over the next few days.
Sorry to hear about your mod, Texoman. Know how much it stings to lose your progress. It sounds like you have a project or two going. I think we could set this up more professionally if you would like to contribute more. We use Slack amongst the team to update and keep track on things. Feel free to drop me a pm and I'll invite you
