Thread: MP-Campaign factions

    Default MP-Campaign factions

What are some interesting faction matchups for a Multiplayer campaign (1vs1)
    The 2 factions should be
    a)somewhat balanced
b)don't start right next to each other but also not at the opposite corners of the map
    and
c)be a bit asymmetrical with different strengths and weaknesses to get interesting battles.

Epirus and Hayasdan maybe? Hayasdan is potentially too easy due to its large number of regions, but their weak early game will prevent too much expansionism, especially if you get into an early war with Seleukia.

Arveni and Carthage? You could meet in the middle at Spain, and both of you will likely end up at war with Rome. Two very different army compositions!

How are Arverni balanced with Carthage? Carthage is MUCH stronger.

@OP: I`d go with Parthia vs. Odryssians. If that`s not too far away from one another (for your liking).

Athens and Odrysian Kingdom are good. Seleucids and Bactria are good (after seleucids lose their satrapies). Galatia and sparta could work. There are lots of nice match ups. And scythians work perfectly with about anyone.

Hasn't Epirus a much harder start?

I would also they sad Carthage is stronger and we have played Carthage vs Rome in a previous campaign, so i am not too keen on playing Carthage again.
Parthia vs. Odryssians is far, but probably the maximum distance that is still ok.

Athens and Odrysians are bit too close to each other for my liking, but Bactria vs Seleceuids seems interesting.

Could you all elaborate how these factions differ from each other? It has been a while since i played DeI and i am unfamiliar with most of the factions.

You need a total count of 25 posts to unlock editing. The reason is to prevent spam and trolls, since people could edit their posts to say obscene things etc after posting them and staff wouldn't be able to tell unless they happened to circle back to the thread and other people complained. At least, that's my theory. Doesn't take long to get to 25 if you're active though.

    Popular factions:

    Carthage vs Seleucids
    Armenia vs Media vs Baktria
    Macedon vs Massalia
    Egypt vs Rome

Here's an article on advised rules to balance MP campaigns since CA doesn't try.

Yes, as I said Hayasdan is likely too easy. Epirus is a pretty difficult starter. Their army and diplomatic options is what I personally think the most well-balanced in the game though. Half the known factions like you, half of them hate you.

    For my choice:

Odryssians have really cool 2 hander melee infantrymen. Also, they get them right from the start. That is the core of their army, and their usual style is just all out infantry charge.

Parthia heavily relies on horse archers at start. Later on they get really cool and strong Sparabara units, but until that point are quite weak @infantry.

As you can see, two pretty much diametrically opposite approaches.

Though, IMO, Parthia will have the upper hand in battles unless sieges.
