What do people think about the winter battles in this game? (Yes, I know I'm bringing up an old thread, but it's been a year since we had this discussion)
I just released a mod that removes winter from the game, for the 100+ people that don't like it. You can find it here.
Why do you hate winters?

I can't say that I particularly like, or dislike winter battles. They do bring a diversity to the battlefields, which is a good thing.
There is one situation when I prefer fighting in the winter, and that is forest battle. During the winter, the forest are much less dense, which prevents forest battle to degenerate into total chaos.
Therefore I voted for occasional winter battles.
I honestly don't care what season it is for battle although spring and fall might be interesting for a change![]()
They simply don't look as good as summer (all gray and white instead of green and brown), IMO. Also there's no grass, so if you don't have shadows they're really bad looking.
Personally, I like the white.
The feeling I get when commanding a snow battle is really amazing. It makes it easier for me to really picture myself being there, being cold, trudging across the tundra. I can picture the howling of the wind, feel the sting of ice on my face and hear the crunching of the snow under all of those feet.
It also raises the stakes (historically speaking) because your chances of living from a wound drop drastically if you take a hit in a freezing environment.
These troops knew the chances, and they marched to battle anyway.
I dunno, I really get into it more in the snow.

Hmm, well good for you I guess.
In real life though, almost none of the medieval battles were fought in the snow. It just wasn't a good time for campaigning (harsh weather + little to no forage).
I voted a long time ago, but I like the winter battles, it adds to the atmosphere of some battles. You may be right about not many battles being fought in winter historically though...By the way, did all the older posts get deleted? Why exactly?
No, I moved them to another thread, because I wanted to revive this topic thus keeping the poll statistics, but I didn't want to "dig up an old discussion."
With modding, I can make it how I want it.Life isn't always how ya want it![]()

I think there should be winter battles, why not? Big deal if it doesn't "look as cool". It's winter, it's not going to look as well as Summer.

The pleasure about a dream is that it's a fantasy. If it ever came real then it wasn't a dream.
I vote occasionally.

Winter battles are a nice change of pace, I think. Still, every other turn is probably not necessary. Too many troops get a bonus for fighting in the snow too. Why would Spanish or Italian troops get this bonus? The Mediterranean doesn't get that much snow. I'd rather see this reserved for northern armies.
I don't think that snow bonus has anything to do with the armor, since most (if not all) European heavily armored troops also have it (dismounted feudal knights, armored swordsmen...).
I guess the Europeans get snow and woods bonus, and Easterners get desert bonus, to reflect their native climate.
If I could voteI would go for the 1 in 5 option, I am not too keen on the look of snow battles and the blizzards hamper visibility but I do like variation in my campaigns so wouldnt want to get rid of it completely.
Hit them as hard as you can, as fast as you can, where its going to hurt them the most..... and preferably when theyre not looking!
