It's quite a bit to ask for an edited video guide.

That being said, faction-specific recruitment information would be a good future addition to the manual. No idea how I'm supposed to unlock higher-tier Armenian units in my own campaign.

Question has been asked alot before. You don't need barracks anymore. The town center type now determines if u are able to recruit units in a province or not.
The core roman units (hastati, principes, triarii, equites etc.) can only be recruited in Italia (with the first lvl of town center in Roma). Then u have the allied units (Equites Extraordinarii Samnite/Campani/Etrusci etc. Pedites Sociroum Latini/Etrusci etc.) which can be recruited in Venetia, Magna Graecia and Italia.

Last but not least you have AoR Units for example if you build the "Allied State" goverment type town center lvl 4 in Carthago Nova you get to recruit iberian cav, spearmen, swordsmen, nobles and levies.

It helps a lot to look in the building browser as well.

For Legion recruitment outside Italy after Marian reforms you need either Public Land -- Auctioned off, or Public Land -- Divided assignments -- Colonia with Latin Rights.

And I can see for some Auxilia units you need the Castellum (garrison), usually up to about level II or III.

Here is a re-post of recruiting outside Italy for THE ROMANS EARLY GAME (not yet reached the post-marian stage)

It is very detailed and interesting, it depend on the most prominent local culture of the province you are looking at but unfortunately there is no current detailed guide so it is kinda overwhelming for the new player.

After playing as the Romans for a while I have found the following patterns:

    1. In Italy you will be able to recruit your typical Roman core units such as Equite, Velite/Leve, Hastati, Principe, and Triarii and their Latin/Sammite equivalents.

    2. In non-Latin provinces such as Carthago Nova (Edtani main culre) and Corduba (Turdtani) and any future provinces you conquer that dosen't have Italy/Latin culture, you will have to go down the "Civitas Foederata" line in order to let those provinces recruit local troops to fight for you. It usually is Tier 4 for Provincial Capitals (which unlocks all local troops), or Tier 3 for Provincial Towns (unlock basic local troops) and tier 4 for provincial towns (unlock the elite local troops).

    3. This bit is important, in order to recruit units in a non-italian province, you must not have any Free State (Socius and Libra) in any of the regions in the province. They can be either foedereta or Stipendia or just tier 2 peregine. Only one of them have to be foederata in order to unlock the recruiting units, where the other can be Stipendia or simply tier 2 peregine. But NONE of them can be Socius as having any free state in any region in a province will forbid it from recruiting any units.

4.Of course your public order has to be good enough.

I also have no idea how this AOR will work once we get Auxiliary and Marian Reforms researched. Not yet reached that stage!

    Hope this helps!

I think recruitment for Marian Legionaries is currently broken unfortunately. I've reached all the requirements and can only recruit auxilliary units
