There was some crazy stuff going on with the North Sea bit of the Netherlands, so I fixed that up and added two provinces. From left to right...

Friesland = Leeuwarden
Dorestad = Oversticht

I'm not 100% on thwestern border of Oversticht, I mean it to be along the bank of the Rhine, but since it wasn't on the map I had to guess...

The Saxon territories should be rebellious at the start of the game, but maybe delay the actually emergence to a bit later. Are emergences just tied to dates, can't they be tied to outside events or the Emperor's authority?

All the names are ideally in Old German, if not Modern German. Point out any mistakes please.

Probably all the names in France should be Germanised, as the Franks did speak a Germanic language, not a Romance one like French is today.

Some on the Franco-German border could be merged, Southern Italy seems to have plenty of regions, some up in Pomerania could go maybe. One or two in Britain.

Let's finish the map, and then work on the number.

Boy oh boy this will make the frankish empire extremely strong! They control half of the games provincies! Some should be merged even if jusst to balance gameplay

Charlemagne's Empire

Charlemagne's Empire in 800, the same as in 785 but he doesn't own Barcelona and any of the Basque Country yet.

I can see 4, maybe 5 mergings at the moment, that would help, but we have to live with the fact that his Empire was that big. Remember it has to live with Saxon and Lombard emergences.

Edit - in the other maps I used, they all showed his Empire reaching to Modern Holstein, South of Jutland.

What's the point of going so far north? First off, the sea will be intraversable in the winter, and a region so far north could hardly be useful to anyone but the sami nomads at this early a point in history... Plenty of trade resources though, I guess. Anyway, did we decide on traversable rivers or not? Would making them be possible? (One square wide rivers that have lots of crossing points and that can be used to sail far into the continent)
