Character Claims Thread

[Gandalfus]

Though players are entitled to make up whatever characters they wish, there are certain historical actors that must remain the same. These are the essential actors of the time period: figures such as William and his immediate family.
There is the option to take a historical character if a player so chooses. I've taken the liberty of putting together a list of the various historical figures of the time: the companions of William, the Saxon earls, and the clergy of England. Claims conflicts are preferably to be resolved between the players, though if this can't be solved then the moderators will step in and decide.

The line started with Reginald de Walpole around the time William the Conquerer landed. The name comes from a town in Norfolk. He was in England before the conquest and was the first of his line to hold the name.

Interesting choice, you'd essentially be forging your ancestors legacy. The world is your oyster.

I would like to take Reginald de Walpole if I can. Also, I didn't realize Chesser you had my other pick, I overlooked your post, so you can have that role if you want, that's no problem.

An interesting thing to remember when creating custom characters, is that William's army was filled with mercenaries from Flanders, France and Brittany. Thus, custom characters are most likely to be Norman, French, Flemish or Breton.

Another character that should be on the claims list is Brian de Bretagne.

I will put down the St Leger family. They will be some or all of the sons of "Robertus De Vilapari Sancto Leodegario", who was lord of St Leger near the forest of Yvelines southwest of Paris. I'll say the lord fought at Hastings too, but only his sons remained (or something like that) to conveniently cut out the obnoxious issue of border gore. They will all have been knights who fought for the duke at Hastings.

I'm maxed out on character claims, I simply suggested good Brian de Bretagne because he was the man who routed the brothers Godwin and Edmund Godwinson and out end to their insurrection.
