Default Marian Reforms / AOR mechanic

Can anyone explain how the Marian Reform technology works. Once I researched this tech I can no longer recruit Principes, Hastatii etc in Rome. I get the option to upgrade my current units but it's a backward upgrade i.e. to inferior/weaker units. So I'm guessing you must do something else to unlock Marian Legionary units? Is it a special building? Where? Only from the AOR Map? What if you don't own all those regions how can you recruit or upgrade current units?
    Thanks for any help.

The units from the Triplex Acies (Hastati, Principes and Triarii) turn into the civil guard units also found in garrisons provided by the main settlement buildings. To get the Marian units, simply go to a region where they are available (for a map, check http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-and-Resources) and recruit as normal.

Thanks for your reply. I cannot recruit unit, no recruitment points available. What are recruitment points?

Recruitment points are your recruitment capacity. This is usually lowered drastically by low public order (-70 or worse) or the season of winter. Also make sure the building you have in the main settlement is of your culture and high enough level (level 3 at least should be enough for legionaries. I believe even level 1.

Thanks Mithrillian. However, despite meeting those conditions I am unable to recruit in any Roman AOR regions (tested: Africa, Southen Iberica, Magna Grecia).

Ah, thanks Yifan, makes sense. I did post about it on the bug forum but Philip mentioned it was WAD.

Yifan, old mate, old buddy, old friend....could you please write me when the bug is fixed? I often can't tell from the Steam updates. Thx

Yes first research the Marian Reforms (~56 turns to wait.) Then you must have these conditions: level 3 building, latin culture >60%, high Public Order (e.g. positive), then in the AOR regions you can build the historic legions **IF** you have enough recruitment points. **HOWEVER**, as reported above the whole mechanic is bugged and not working properly. We are waiting for a fix. My pal Yifanwang will tell us when its fixed.

thanks, I have another question. What's the barrack's name ? I researched the new tech but then in Rome I can recruit only triarii and principle . Look in the building tree, there are army drill and garrison buildings but I don't know what's the barrack. Thanks in advance

There is no barracks building in this mod. I haven't actually been able to recruit any Marian Legionaries because of the bug, but as far as I can understand it's only the conditions specified above in the specified regions. I've seen posts about the farm buildings but to be honest, I just don't know. Cheers!

Recruitment from other regions than Roma isn't bugged, and I apologise for any confusion. The building requirement for recruiting legions is the Roman colony line (part of the Lands chain). You will see which building enables recruitment by hovering the mouse over it.

The only place where recruitment is bugged is Roma. In this instance, legions are tied to the Capital building, but you could only build them through tier 1 and not above (which was the bug). This has been fixed and will be updated shortly. Being able to recruit legions from a main settlement building is an exception to the rule and I cannot say if we will keep this exception for Roma, or if you will have to build a Roman colony in Italy in the future. But for now, this is what we have.

May I ask if a fix is live or when it will be? Does it affect running save or you need to restart campaing...? I'm going to start new today so wanna know if I should wait or not Thank you

I found a way how to recruit marian units, go to public lands and open the building browser for it. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.n...B82790D3A2758/ , the lvl 2 building on the far left build it and u will be able to recruit em. Works for me at least

You will need to restart regardless, there have been a few patches since then and every patch requires a new game right now.

I know but can I somehow disable automatic updates so I can play without fear that my save will be ed up after some update?

Don't fall in love with your campaign. This mod is a beta and will be constantly improved. You do want to play the improved versions, don't you?
