As the first Carthaginian envoy arrived at Antioch after months of the voyage, a surprise awaited them. The city now was in Ptolemaic Egypt's hands. The gates were opened for them, but watchful eyes shadowed them as they went through the streets. The Palace was barred from them and it seemed they have to turn back in the next they. However, just before midnight, there was a silent knocking on the doors of their quarters. As it turns out, resistance was still heavy in the city. The leader of this resistance, a past royal guard in the palace, has lead the small envoy out of the city into the midst of night. Then he gave them horses and told them to go to Tarsus. The last city near Syria holding out against Egypt...
There, the local governor told them what happened, however, it's not the conquest of Antioch that was the interesting part. And word went around quickly. Soon, friendly merchants brought back the news: The Seleucid Empire have been betrayed.
Great leaders of the world! I, The Great Suffet of Carthago wish to give my message to you yet again! Once, I told you about conquers of the East, a nation greedy enough to think of its culture as someone else's and to claim all of Anatolia for itself... And you didn't believe me. Now, I have proof that you should have! My merchants and envoys brought me news from the Seleucid Empire, our friends, and allies, that they have been betrayed!
Through them, it has come to my attention, that a Non-Aggression Pact existed between the Seleucids and Armenians. The exact terms are unknown, however, it was agreed that a certain amount of gold would be paid to the Armenians. A fair deal by all means. The Seleucid Empire, due to having its diplomats being close to Egypt because of the war was busy, so they asked the Armenians to come to Sardis for their gold. After, the Seleucids sent an expedition into past Parthian lands, only for them to be warned by close Armenian units to turn back as the territories are theirs. And the Seleucids, even with money and time spent on this expedition turned back!
And yet, when Armenia went to war, their ruler claimed the opposite: That the Seleucids were deliberately marching on lands they claimed, and they would not pay the gold agreed upon...
But then, why wouldn't they negotiate if they feel they were cheated? Why could horse archers capture Hatra, a settlement miles away from any Armenian city?
The Armenians are warmongers, and cannot be trusted. Heed my words! Do not make deals with the Armenians...
In the meantime, the Carthagian Empire ever grows stronger... Undoubtedly, the Western Mediterranean is ours. Our military efficiently kills African, Barbarian, and Greek rebels alike. Our elephants break down walls and gates like they are made of feather, not wood, stone or iron. Our merchants bring all the luxuries in the world to Carthago, and they make us rich. And now, a new union in the Iberian Penisula has been created with the alliance of Spain, and Carthage. They are our brothers from now on, and we are ready to fight a common enemy if one arises...
