Default [Question] Concering the cavalry rearing up when charging

Would it be possible for cavalry to do this also when charging against other charging cavalry?

If I remember correctly, both horses and riders are noted to be rather reluctant to physically slam into another mass of horse and metal (admittedly also a small amount of human) in Goldsworthy´s book about the Roman army.

I recall there being accounts of Napoleonic warfare era cavalry action, in which one side either fled, both sides stopped at arms length to posture before joining into melee or both sides mutually passing through each other to not end in a suicidal heap of flesh.

The development of Roman arms and armour fit this description of combat, with f.e. later helmets being specifically built to protet against hits from all sides.

IMO it would be best if charging close order cavalry rear up when facing other heavy cavalry, more open order hybrid melee javelin cavalry pass through each other to converge in a chaotic melee and when these different types charge each other the heavy cavalry wins.
    Is it possible?

Good Ol' Goldsworthy, but not I don't believe you can unfortunately.

Thats unfortunate, Petellius. This always bugged me as well. So great point to raise, Maetharin.

I especially loathe horses sometimes slowing to a crawl right befrore impact and creeping towards the intended target with their steps completely out of sync and the rider on top of it just simply not moving out of the charging animation even if he actually were in position to use his weapon against a target.

Sometimes this continues until after impact and the "charging" horse just slowly pushing the other horse away. Then more often then not, the two men start to fight after their horses seem to have completed a rather complicated mating ritual.

I just really wished CA didn´t completely half ass their games...

any unit with charge reflect large has a chance to stop cavalry. You need them to be braced and they need to have a high enough mass so that the cavalry will stop. Its governed in the kv_rules table near the bottom.

And why is it impossible to get this behaviour against charging cavalry?
Because moving units are automatically unbraced or because cavalry can´t brace?

Because cavalry just don't seem to have the large entity charge reflect applied... only seems to work on infantry
