Feedback after playing for quite some time.
Hey, loving the mod so far! While playing I made a list of some issues and thought it could be helpful to post them here! As the bug thread said to only post game-breaking bugs and there not being a thread for just feedback (that I could find) I decided to make a thread.
Playing on Normal/Normal btw.
- The best trade goods are absurdly strong, Gold tier IV for example giving 22k gold per turn. Furthermore it's fast and cheap to upgrade it.
- Stone Quarry tier halving the cost of construction is very strong, and it wasn't gated behind tech for Carthage (Though it is for Hellenic factions) it's also one of the best income buildings (In provinces with bad fertilty).
- Some building chains need to be looked over, either being really awful (high maintenance, low reward), the hellenic ones seemed much better than Carthage's.
- There are several duplicates of Mint buildings (for Hellenic and Carthage atleast), giving same effect with just different descriptions.
-Some tier of Main Settlement suddenly no longer give minus food and plus squalor. For Example as Ptolemaic Egypt, Tier 4 Nomes, Polis (Military) and Jerusalem, Friends of the Pharaoh (Hellenized). etc. Some even return the negatives at Tier V.
- A submod for more tpy, 4,12,24 would be great. Some dislike the political aspect anyway and seasonal effects become something you can play around when they last longer at a time.
- Hellenic level IV Port (Military) description and effect page just blank. Though it still unlocks recruitment of new ships atleast.
- Hardly any sources of Squalor. Could be added to many buildings such as mines, Aristocratic estates etc.
Now for some larger observations on the economy.
Now firstly, the income scales way out of hand. For example playing as Ptolemy, I'm now at just turn 30 and have conquered just 2 additional cities and have an income of 166,139 with 158,328 just in the Aegyptus province alone. I still have 3 stacked armies and a navy and could add 20 more armies if I wanted. It's way out of hand. (For what it's worth Egypt is just stacking of Farm buildings, Aristocratic/Civitas/Magas Makra Stoa.)
Major problem is that many buildings are just way too good, build quickly and cost very little and require no tech. For example Great Aristocratic Estates in Egypt costs just 1536, with 6 turns build time and gives +4000 (agriculture) and -700, which gets boosted by effects. Gold mine Tier 2 costs 3648 and takes just 4 turns while giving about +6450 income (before bonuses). Tier 3 is 7.2k gold and just 6 turns to build and give +16125 income (before bonuses, 22k+ with).
I think overall increasing turn times, reducing income and increasing build cost on most things of higher tier would be a great improvement. Especially as it gets crazier with multipliers.
Also adding further negative effects on the stronger buildings such as Aristocratic Estates and Gold mines etc. and locking stuff behind tech would help.
But this is just the things I found problematic, been having a ton of fun so far! Definetly the best iteration of the Ancient era I have played. Got a great mix of strengths from EB2 (Allied state, Greek polis, Foreign Settlers) and DEI and also fantastic units, the best I've ever seen in a Total War game.
Good luck on future patching! Looking forward to more factions being added, especially some playable Barbarian horde settling new lands!
