Medieval 2 Total War - Machiavello mod | Model for an Italian Hand Culverine with two piece servants. A hand culverine is a XV century artillery piece made of a short smoothbore tube, usually of iron, held in place by on a wooden piece with brass bands. Portable culverins weighted around 40 kg (88 lb) in weight, and were mounted on a swivel to adjust for elevation and direction or fixed on walls in defensive stance. The term “culverin” is derived from the Latin colubrinus, or “snake-like”, in reference of the erratic path of the projectiles. The model is mainly a combination of work made by the mod team and some OSP pack developed for Mount & Blade Warband.

I have some problem with the campaign map - there are crashes, most likely related to stratmap models. I still have to identify which one causes the trouble.

someone has to lead those armies - so a condottiere is on his way!

Medieval 2 Total War - Machiavello mod | Model for an Italian Condottiere for the Bracceschi. The Bracceschi were commanders associated with Braccio da Montone and his military school, and many of them, like the Piccinino family, fought over all major conflucts in XV century Italy. A “condottiere” acts as general and military commander of a large unit; he is shown with the command baton with which this figure is shown with. The models are based on Paolo Uccello’s painting of the Battle of San Romano, with the characteristic large hats and plumes of the men-at-arms, and a trumpeteer. They are armed with plate armour in Milanese style, as other professional mercenaries of XVth-century Italy.

    Beautiful work!

Is the battle of San Romano the one that Machiavelli said that only one person died and that was because they fell from their horse?

    Hi Wallachian.
No, Machiavelli was referring to the battle of Anghiari, but he was exaggerating, since even that battle had its share of casualties.
But Machiavelli in its bold statement makes a point nonetheless: in XV century italian warfare battles were less bloody than in the early XVI century, since Italian condottieres had the tendency to spare their prisoners, as they did with civilians, expecially women.
When the French king Charles VIII came to Italy and his Swiss mercenaries slaughtered the Rapallo's inhabitants, it was quite a shock to the Italian culture of War.

    thanks!

in the meantime, a group mesh of several units: you may see a polearm (a flail), a crossbowman, a handguner, and two spearman; pavises ingame will be held by them, as unfortunately it is not possible to have droppable pavise (although I confess I am trying to have them by using the stakes mesh)

    Bohemian mercenaries

(Click on the picture to see them in sketchfab)

Model for a group of Bohemian mercenaries. In mid-xv century Hungary and Austria, groups of ex-hussite soldiers disbanded formed groups of mercenaries under the command of leaders such as
Jan Jiskra z Brandýs or Jan Vitovec. They retained the successful style of combat that allowed them to resist the attacks from heavy cavalry the the previous decades - namely, the war-wagons and their defence style boosted by a large use of pavise shields, hand-held guns (Píšťala and Hákovnice), and agricultural tools turned into war items such as the trademark flail.

Been a lurker for some time, but I had to post here eventually. I gotta say that this looks bloody excellent! I do worry slightly about how you're gonna keep up with the detailed units and the nice presentation.

Oh also, it would be great if you could find a way to mod the stake mesh, but I doubt if it's possible.
