    can't find MSVCP71.dll.. while it's right there in the Medieval 2 Total War folder where it should be
    It should be in the tools\unpacker directory in some cases - copy it over there.

    Ok, I've tried to make the Dismounted Tsars Guard unit, but it doesn't show up in the game. I can't even get it with the create_unit command (unit type not recognised). I've done all the required editing and copied the new data folder into the M2TW folder. I did leave the ui pictures the same for now (did make new files with the new name, will photoshop them later when the unit works).

    Allright I forgot the IO switch.. my bad!

    Now I'm getting the black screen, enter, CTD..

    I've made a backup of the vanilla data folder and a separate folder with all the right subfolders to put the edited files in. When I thought I was done I just copied the edited files over the vanilla ones.

    I've got the vanilla files back up and running. Now the question remains which mistakes I made in editing the files

    Edit: I found a code error. had to remove the __ entries. Now the unit shows up in the unit list for custom battles, although it appears odd(no name, 57 soldiers in the unit). When I try to start a battle with it I get to see a blink of a basilisk cannon close up and then I get a CTD.

    Your EDU says tsars guard with soldier tsars guard, while everything else says dismounted tsars guard. You might want to check on that.

    No, it says Dismounted Tsars Guard with soldier Dismounted_Polish_Nobles like the tutorial says. You're looking at the original Tsars Guard text which I included.

    In the game it shows up in the unit list as "unlocalised placement text" so something is obviously wrong there, something with export_units.txt? It does have the correct number of soldiers now (75 spearmen at normal unit size). When I start a battle with it I get a glimps of an infantry unit and a big black spot on the map, then a CTD.

    I have the "unlocalised placement text" problem fixed now, CTD problem remains.

    btw, I always get the CTD, even if I try to start a battle with other units.

    This has to mean there's an error in the battle_models file, right?

    This is what it looks like before it crashes:


    I ran the modeldbchecker on the edited file, it said the number of units specified at the top was 701, while the number of units processed was 703. I did forget to change this, but I only added 1 unit, so why did the number raise 2 points? The problem remains with this error corrected.

    Ah, that's why. Thanks for clearing up! And I did change it into 703, even though I didn't know why it had to be that way at that point

    But it still crashes to desktop.. everything looks in order though, darn, i'm completely lost now..

    Log is clean. But found out that the CTD has nothing to do with the modding. The game still crashes when trying to run a battle after I put back the (unpacked) vanilla data folder, the game will run battles without the IO switch, but will crash when it's engaged. So it's caused by the unpacked data folder, not the modding I did. How do I go about fixing that??
