Default TWC Total War Saga Britannia benchmark thread - last updated:10.05.2018

    Greetings TWC members!

Continuing the legacy: Here it is: the 6th iteration of TWC exclusive Total War benchmarking thread.

This thread is not a hardware advice thread but will give you a clear idea, which hardware will give you a certain level of playability at the graphical presets in Tota War Saga: Britannia, defined by CA.
With the help of this thread you will get an idea of what you get and what you can expect for your bucks when it comes to hardware and performance in this next Warhammer title.

Reminder: It is not a thread for hardware advice. If you are looking for this I would like to pass you on to more specific thread by HigoChumbo over here (for WH 1 /2).

So why benchmarking games instead just playing them?
Some think benchmarking is no good but for some few those enjoy putting all their eggs (not guts) in one basket or simply showing off other people .
This can be the case but nevertheless this thread should not be considered to be a place for nerds only, having the most potent hardware around, but should be also a place for all others having weaker and more common hardware setups. Also their results are much more important, because they are quite the majority of common of Total War players.

That said: Benchmarking can be fun for everyone regardless the hardware setup you have, to compare your individual performance to others and often enough find improvements.

Here are some benchmark threads that I hosted and many people contributed with passion to provide their results:

Total War Center - Total War benchmark thread anthology:

    Warhammer II

    Warhammer I

    Attila

    Rome 2 (post #10)

    Shogun 2 (post #5 and #6)

As always I will try to find the easiest way possible for everyone to participate so it shall and hopefully will not fail just because you aren't a computer expert.

Have a look at this thread again in a couple of days for detailed instructions. If you are willing to participate or interested into the results don't forget to subscribe.

    Current version: 10.1.1.42 (20th January 2017)

It is important to update chipset and GPU drivers for optimal performance.

    How to benchmark properly:

    0. Before you begin: Check / Update your drivers (see above)

    1. General rules before benchmarking:
    - only use the given presets, do not alter the settings manually to make the results comparative! Do not use the "optimal settings" for the benchmark either!

    - Warhammer doesn't save any log files - again- for the benchmarking process. If you got a "downgrade message" due to insufficient video memory please do not submit this results as it is not comparable - it has individual downgrades
Instead pick the next lower preset. Only use unlimited video memory if you use an inbuild on die CPU like AMD Axxx CPU, Intel HDxxxx etc.

    - You do not need to run all presets if your machine is not capable enough (3-4 GB VRAM needed for extreme quality or manually maxed out quality).
It would be helpful enough if you can submit at least one preset where no "downgrade massage" message appeared. Refer above.

    - never use unlimited memory options if you have a laptop card or discrete card in your PC.

    - keep your Windows updated, including the so-called "optional" updates, they contain non security related but needed updates, you need to enable them in the Windows Update settings.

    - "in-game" benchmarks are fine, but won't be included in the results table as they aren't entirely reproducible.

    - please note that modern hardware is very much temperature limited. many processors (CPUs) or graphics cards (GPUs) will throttle performance over time. I know this is actually hard to deal with to keep the results objective.

    2. How to obtain, use and submit cpu-z.txt results
    - results without CPU-Z logs won't be included in the original post
    - Download CPU-Z. CPU-Z is free and available here: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
    - Install CPU-Z. It does not contain any adware or malware.
    - To create a cpu-z.txt file open CPU-Z > open the "About" Tab > Save Report (TXT) > Save the file where you like and can find it later.

    - How to enclose the a cpu-z.txt logfile in your post:

There are several options for that:
    a. use a cloud / uploading service like Onedrive etc / In Windows 10 1703 or later press Windows Key + G This toolbar also helps you to make screenshots in DX11 AND DX12, aswell as offer easy direct renaming of files, by clicking on the flyout notification.
    b. use TWC attach file feature
    c. use pastebin.com (no account required)
    d. write me an e-mail with the logfile attached to: twcbenchmarks@chynet.de, don't forget to include your forum name please.

    3. Temporarily needed system changes:

    - set Windows Energy settings to "performance" to avoid a temporary downclocking of your CPU / RAM

    - temporarily disable all unneccerary processes and (system tray) applications, especially webbrowsers like chrome and Antivirus programs like Windows Defender in Windows 8.1 / 10 or Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 7.
    - in Windows 10 1703 or later > Press Windows Key + G: Enable Game Mode.

    4. Rules how to post your results:

When submitting a benchmark result, please state the following:
    - minimum FPS
    - maximum FPS
    - average FPS (at least)
    - include a cpu-z.txt log, refer above
    - name the preset in use
    - don't forget to include your in-game resolution
    - if you use Windows 10 determine the build number by entering "winver" in the search bar

    5. How to post results (template):
    - NEW style - As technology evolves so there are a lot more "standard resolutions" out there according to Steam stats. It doesn't make much sense ot gather them all but for sure 1080p and 4k should be contained in the testbed if possible. I hope this new format will be far better readable with many results listed.

I like to check benches and the Tech-Performance side of any new release. Can't wait to see how my clocked i7-7700K (5GHz) 1080ti (2037MHz stable) will run this on 1440p.
Thank you for this thread @alQamar

So am guessing a mix of ultra/high best. Extreme seems a bit low. @above (Gstrategos) that would be interesting to see...

I guess you cant just download the benchmark.

    Hi guys,
thanks for the likes. The WH, especially WH2, threads were nearly dead.

@Totalheadache nice to meet you again. Have been a long time. What do you mean by downloading the benchmark? Can you obtain it separately?

Are there any questions about the benchmarking process?

If I had the game, I would happily benchmark it.

Have you upgraded your computer recently?

Hi Odysseus, who are you asking?

Thanks Nizam, if you have the game I would be amazed to see your results. Let me know if you need help with this.

I think especially your mid class system might be interesting for the readers.

Many of my past contributions in the time from 2011-2017 will contain content that now show broken links. Unfortunately I had to delete all pictures linked on TWC that were hosted on imageshack.us. Read why

Sure no problem mate. I'll try to do it during the weekend, hopefully. I haven't even checked our Crucible Kings mod.
Too much work and not much time to do it atm.

That's interesting - I dont think I've ever seen the game use more thab 3gb even on 1440p, sounds like the automatic degradation might be on the conservative side.

I cannot prove or disprove this except it was very strange that both results of maxed out settings and extreme settings showed nearly identical results even close to my figures, which is, compared in the other presets highly unlikely.

I have double checked everything with the user via Teamviewer. Might have had a look into the gfx.log, if still in use, sorry.

Still haven't found the time for benching or even playing the game more than a few minutes. Crazy month.
I haven't forgotten your thread though.

No problem. Looking forward to any results coming in. I will try to get some more results from other users when I find time, too.
