Default Bullgods Icons for Rome 2, adapted to EBII

    Info
So this is a personal compilation I've been using and seeing some of the interest for an icon submod, I've decided to share it as is. It's not perfect (as these icons were made for Rome 2), but I feel like they really add to the EBII atmosphere. Especially because they use stances a lot, which helps to differentiate between unit types. The pixel graphics work well with the MTWII engine as well I think.

So if you can live with the fact that a few of the shields are bit off etc, then this is the mod for you.
Feel free to point out any errors though, I'd be happy to correct them.

I'm using my own photoshopped versions (switching shields, weapons and adding the background) of the awesome Bullgods Unit Icons Project and some of Raguen's Unit Cards For Radious Mod with BullGod style. Both mods are great and very recommendable for Rome 2.

All units have been adapted to EBII, but here are some examples:

    Examples

    Edit:
I've redone many of the units, like making sure the height and stance of the icons is consistent across factions.
Each Hellenistic factions now has a unique hoplite unit, to differentiate them from each other
Here we see Macedon, Baktria, Bosporus and Epiros

Also updated so that each factions has some unique AOR untis, where their style affects the regional units they can muster:

The first three are the Roman, Hellenistic and Steppe versions of the Thracian Peltastai. While the two last units are the Roman and Ptolemai versions of the Hoplitai haploi

To install overwrite the 'units' folder or copy the content into \Medieval II Total War\mods\ebii\data\ui\units

It surely is a good thing that you ported them icons to EBII, the better the mods look the brighter the game's legacy.

I never tried this, but a friend convinced me that once you had the new icons installed, you could no longer play without them. So I'm here to cheer the modders ! Best of luck in your efforts to make it compatible to 2.35 ! Looks very nice !

I'm about halfway through adapting the new icons, so check back in 2-3 days or so.

Thank you, I'd be happy to work with the team, should they want that heh.. Unfortunately, at this time a lot of the cavalry portraits are off - as Bullgod basically made all icons with shields, and a fair bit of EB2 units don't have any. But I'm slowly learning how to draw these myself, so in time the icons may fit perfectly.

Hi are u still working on the mod?
IMHO the borders are unnecessary and the mod would benefit by having most of the unitcard occupied by the art. (larger images)

You are more than welcome to do so yourself, I'm unfortunately not good enough with Photoshop to add the proper mask and transparency to the images. It's quite easier to make one square mask for all images, rather than 400+ for each individual unit. Also I tried resizing them, but this just blurs and distorts the artwork that Bullgods and Raguen made, making them very difficult to discern.

Mod updated slightly, with new versions of the Camillian and Polybian Hastati and Principes, with changes to most factions' regional units as well.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I'm currently looking through many of the units in-game, making sure that if a unit is a skirmisher on the battlefield (even though it says spearman in the description), then it is reflected as a skirmisher by the stance on its unit card. Like the Thracian Pelstati, that is a mix between a skirmisher and a swordman. I think I've gotten all of them, but feel free to point out if you spot any, I haven't played the Steppe civs very extensively.

    Hi Rosbjerg,
thanks for your submod, I'm going to try it. Looks good, keep it on!
After having a short look, I've got three qualms:
    - spies and diplomats - I'm not convinced by their impersonal icons, I think the original EBII solution is much better.
    - free upkeep - it's not shown anymore (ie the units stationing in a settlement you currently don't pay for: they're not shaded-out) - this is actually a major issue as this is a piece of useful information for the player and should be handy,
    - frames - they take up too much space, as jazstl mentioned. The figures are smaller than could have been otherwise, see below.
