Default Is there any game that compares?

    To the TW series?
And most important the BATTLES of the TW series?
Look around you, dont we live in the world of dumbed down, basebuilding, shortcut/build order memorising pathetic clickfests?
Where is a game that allows us to have cinematic FPS camera controls to view the charge of 6k men?
Once you start comparing M2TW to the competition then you appreceate its greatness....

I have to agree. All it needs is a good mod. So just wait for Mediaeval Auctoriso and Total Realism.

There are already tons of mods that make this game a 9/10, and im a little skeptical about the current realism mods, i doubt they can make anything similar to RTR.

Mediaeval Auctoriso has done some amazing job with their PTPV, so I actually have my hopes up quite high.

Wow its like you read my mind!!!!
Once we have the mods none can complain because if you complain it means that you have access to the internet thus to the mods!!!!

Indeed. I agree whole heartedly. I received AOEIII and another strategy game for Christmas, and compared to the Total series, they're yesterday's games already and I have no desire to play them. Because of M2TW, I'm spoiled graphically as well as epically! With the modders making the game what it should have been out of the box; I have found that I cannot go back to the mindless game of "rush" to build and overwhelm the computer opponent. Even the much herald graphic's of AOEIII are just plain cheesy compaired to those of M2TW.....

I have to agree, i loved the rts back when starcraft was the bread and butter, but have there been any improvements.... not really to be honest its the same old 'who can make more units faster' that it always has been. I love tw for its role playing capabilities of truly forming a nation and fighting all its battles.

Agree 100%. I played AoE3 for the first time the other day after years of TW gaming, and it didn't compare.

    Hats off to the developers.

I've probably walked the isles of the local game stores several times without buying anything. Nothing really even comes close. I cannot wait until this summer when I suspect several of the major mods will be complete.

I've played a lot of RTS games recently, most of the newest releases in the genre. From the Warhammer games to Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, etc. The only games I've enjoyed nearly as much as I enjoy Total War games was Civilization 4 (and Alpha Centauri, but that's a pretty old game). I think Sid Meier games are really the only thing that can compare. And even then, there's absolutely no comparison to the Total War battlemap.

I keep wondering when someone else is going to step up to the plate and try something like the Total War games. Mark of Chaos tried, but failed, in my opinion.

I play tons of strat games.

TW isnt the only RTS thats great, DOW, COH, RON to name but a few....

But without a doubt, TW's definately the one i go to when i want Battles, meaningful campaigns and a healthy dose of roleplaying.

For an Ancient wargamer, TW series is the only game .. which is kinda annoying because the original concept was to create a accurate wargaming system, which they've done to large extent .. BUT didn't complete the mission!

It's 85% great but could be 99% perfect.

Still after the leaked patch that fixed most of the gamebreaking bugs and people moaning at CA...
That might be the Achilles heel of the TW series...0 competition..

i played age of empires for a while and hated it......i would try and defend my settlement in order to build my economy to raise a professional army to crush the opposition........13 seconds into every game the AI spams you with **** units till you die.....

even if you do manage to win a battle.....the only point is that it advances the story line.......it means nothing in the long run, the enemies all spam you in custom battles, while once you finish the 1 day long campaign, game sux

online sux too........people spam you instead of the ai....its worse since they cuss at you

    rise of nations is good....BUT...........

TOTAL WAR HAS NEVER SUCCUMBED TO THE MAINSTREAM AND NEVER WILL!!!

it is the god of all games and cannot be beaten by any other game....its just so AWESOME!!!

I WILL NEVER GET OVER TW!!!!!!!!!!!

The AI builds units based on cost effectiveness, it seems it tries to get the most firepower
it can for least amount of money.

This decision making AI unfortunately has somehow crept into M2TW. The AI used to build
realistic armies in RTW but now I'm faced with armies completely composed
    of crossbowmen or siege engines.

I'm playing as France on H/H at the moment and out of my many battles with
England over the course of my campaign I've only faced two units of longbowmen,
I just keep facing full English stacks of trebuchets. This is where
M2TW is too similar to some of those spamming RTS out there.

Pretty much i went out and spent a ton of money on a really nice computer that can handle any games, anywhere, anytime. very advanced and expensive and such, expecting to play a bunch of different games, i mean i bought Medieval total war 2 after i loved rome total war, i bought AoE3 and i borrowed some games from my friends, mostly RTS. all of the games i ever played i kept coming back to medieval total war 2, its great because i have a beastly enough machine to run high graphics and you really see a difference between other games. i ended up selling AoE3 to a buddy because i never played it. only medieval total war 2. great game, hats off to CA and everyone who has helped to improve it.
