Any updates on this?
Could one add a still "Praefectus" which can command only Auxiliary units and no Legion. I like to pack my auxiliary units into their own units and do not put them in my legions. These I leave almost always as a guardian in the conquered regions as it was and then move on with my legions. And if you could recruit a "Praefectus" for just those units that came from the ranks of Eques, that would be cool.
mmh, maybe i'm wrong, but i've given a quick glance to lua functions and db tables, and I didn't see anything that permits you to recruit only specified units when you can recruit more than those specified units.
There are limits given by factions, regions, buildings and other stuffs, but they all work by adding possibilities and not by removing them. Dunno.
Maybe something can be done with "Unit_is_in_Unit_list" (from DeI libraries) and with "remove_event_restricted_unit_record_for_faction" (from lua functions).
Or maybe adapting DeI reforms scripts in some way.
Bu I didn't find anything like "can't_recruit" if certain conditions are set.

In some auxiliary units is working. However, there are units, because as you already said the quota is limited. I mum a bit. If it is e.g. from the I. Cohors Batavum infantry and cavalry gives, I put this together if I do not come to the 500 man strength. Also, it would not make much sense for some to set up just an Ala Batavorum from just cavalry. Would be nice but not possible.
I am more or less concerned that these units just get a Praefectus instead of Legatus.
Also it would not be bad if you had "centurions", if you wanted to move any units to another legion, that you do not have to move the entire legion.
I have seen in a mod that is feasible. However, this mod has never been published, if I remember rightly.
I have not the necessary knowledge to state something yet.
I'll begin checking these kind of things after releasing testudo 1.3, when I'll begin doing that RPG unit system I have (somewhere) in my mind.

Thanks for encouragement, hope the system won't be too "machiavellic".

May I suggest giving them Spathas and regular Oval shields to all of them. They look a bit stupid when in cavalry engagements your cav officer is engaging with a short sword and no shield.

How do you download this mod?
....it's all very fun, but where is the link to the download ... at least something
I took some artistic freedom when I did the screenshots, just to showcase the amour better. I removed the shield and spear for some better shots.
Each general will have the same equipment as the existing ones.
They will use the oval shield, with different pasterns, when on horseback they will use the spear, and gladius when fighting on foot. The spatha would have been a nice addition, but the way the game works we can only add one swordtype to the unit, so the spatha will look out of place if you recruit the general as infantry.
Patients my friends, it takes time to make all the assets.
I can make a small release if there is a interest in it. I could probably have a small mod ready in a week or so, nothing big, 10 generals maybe.
