Thread: Medieval 2 Total War bug

  1. #1

Default Medieval 2 Total War bug

This bug appears in kingdoms expansion. Could be modding a cause to this ? I Haven't edited any original file or folder so idk why this happening.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

This is in Brittania but it occurs in all the other expansions where the settlement is not the same as the one in vanilla. The buildings are not only black, but i can't move units in certain ares so this is affecting the gameplay even more.

I was told by Gigantus to ask here about this.

This is in the Teutonic expansion, and also happens in my Mod that uses some teutonic settlements as placeholders. (maybe in other mods too but idk, haven't tried yet). Can someone explain me what is this ?
    Also affects collision a bit.

From what I kow this issue was introduced with the steam version of Medieval 2/Kingdoms, a lot of settlements show those dark buildings caused by the structures in those complexes being assigned to the darker bone thing.
One potential fix would be to copy the data/settlements folder from a retail install of M2TW and paste it into your steam install.

This makes me wonder though, were the settlements edited/changed for the steam version, how could something like this happen unless they ran the settlements through ther internal tools again?

HA! ... I was not aware of this sort of difference in vanilla settlements between retail and steam versions... ( I mean speaking of this bones assignations)..

CA never stops to surprise, apparently, eh! xD

    Thanks Frunk!

There's also this by Gig Creating a World - Black Settlement Fix for Steam with installers for the less technically confident.

People probably aren't finding that (or this thread) as it's deep in the modding section and the problem isn't modding induced... would it be worth a sticky in the Disscussion and Support forum?

And here I was thinking I might have done something good, only to find darn Gig has me bested already.

Thanks for letting me know about that. I think you are right that the Tech Support section would be good for it (I thought about just copying it), so I'll move it and sticky as you suggest.

Only a year too late - that's not so bad.

Agree with moving my thread, makes sense

While you are at it you may want to move this tutorial of mine as well. And this one. How about this one

I'm sure you two can figure this out between yourselves, but I meant add a thread in the Discussion area that links to that fix, and ideally the other fixes that are useful to players which Gig' pointed out, if we just move everything we'll reverse the problem and the modders won't find them

The redirect in the Tutorials section is a permanent one, if that's any help?

    EDIT: I missed Gig's edit.

Far be it for me to decide, but is it fair to say that the Black Settlement bug is one players will run into, whereas the Block Graphic bug is more likely to affect modders? Hence housing them in the Tech section or the Workshop based on that. How about the other two?

I see that an index would be helpful...

'Block graphics' will happen with mods, mostly those that were done initially for the earlier game version. Like those medieval mods I 'curated' to run under kingdoms and Steam, in this list.
The 'square trails' is a non mod issue, eg happens with the original files.
'console key' is an issue with non standard (non UK\US) key boards.

I doubt that, but on the other hand perhaps merge a similiar thread with this and move it to M2TW Technical Discussion subforum as s sticky.
Under patronage of General Brewster of the Imperial House of Hader.

How to make Morrowind less buggy for new players - Of course every player may find it useful.

@Gig: I think the Tech Support section would be better but to move these there and create a bunch of stickies would be messy. Maybe a new sub-forum in general discussion for "Bug Fixes and Resources"? Thoughts?

@Leo: I think there's not much point moving or merging this thread; it doesn't hurt to keep it as it now links to the relevant fix from Gig thanks to our bumping and discussion, assuming the ITWE team has no issues with it remaining here.

The sub forum idea has merit, might make sense to use permanent links when moving threads as some articles could cover multiple issues or include actual tutorials.

Aye, permanent links are a given. I'll have a chat to lolI about it.
