Problem here is, what's with the visual effects? Considering reverse lookup plays no part in this game, are we to assume it's part of the clue?

But it's shown in negative colours, it seems. Does that imply "not bathing" or perhaps "unclean"? Yeah, could be I'm overthinking this, but otoh, if that's not the case, why were the images manipulated when there's no point to (avoiding) reverse image lookups in this game?

It's intended to break reverse search. You can reverse it back, but not necessarily. What's the biggest thing in the first pic?

Right, but the point isn't to prevent reverse search, in fact it can even help if you've chosen an incredibly obtuse set of images.
