The first photo is the first word, it's a noun and it doesn't have to do directly with food, there are other things I could replace the food photo with and still have the same meaning.

Edit: been a few days so here is another hint.

Its a proverb that describes how the word the first picture relates to can give rise to the second picture

Nope, Everyone is getting caught up on the food aspect. The word doesn't describe the food its a concept. Gonna replace the first image and see if that helps.

The new first image is a mystery as well, just like the old one and the second one. Which leads me to: "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma"

This is either too clever or too dumb.
    Is it a proverb?

Yeah. I already said that. Its 6 words

    Here is another hint.
First Part: all 4 things have something in common.
Second Part: it has to do with the design and building of the machine.

uh, something with 'nature' or even 'human nature'? Not that I know of any proverbs that start that way....
"Lay these words to heart, Lucilius, that you may scorn the pleasure which comes from the applause of the majority. Many men praise you; but have you any reason for being pleased with yourself, if you are a person whom the many can understand?" - Lucius Annaeus Seneca -

Might have made this one too hard, or my clues aren't helping. Inclined to give this one away. But will try one last hint.
The first picture refers to the 4 basic -----
The second picture refers to the creation of the device.

    --------- is the ------ of ---------

The four basic elements? I noticed earth, water and fire, but dismissed it because there's no wind (unless it's what you get from eating the onions)

the air is in that pump. I thought about the elements as well, but I'm no good at English catchphrases.
That new first image didn't work btw. in the beginning.

How about: "Secrecy is the element of (all) goodness" by Thomas Carlyle?

Gonna call it as no one is even close. It was 'necessity is the mother of invention.' The first photo is of the basic needs.
Here is a simpler concept. 2 words
