Default MAARC LXXIV - Winner's Announcement!

Creative Workshop Competitions - Check out our sister competitions here on TWC! << Picture of the Week | Tale of the Week | Monthly Writers' Study Competitions | Graphics Workshop Monthly Competition >>

    MAARC LXIX

    Congratulations to the winners!

In FIRST PLACE is An Orc's Tale by Maltacus. Most of the orcs of Mordor aren't known for their upper-level management skills, but most of the orcs in Mordor aren't Malthur. Follow along as Maltacus details the trials and conquests of Mordor's most feared, and best run army, under the command of the fiercest orc general in the known world. Head on over to enjoy this adventure in Middle Earth, and congratulate Maltacus on a well-earned first place victory - along with a shiny new bronze medal that the four competition points have earned!

In SECOND PLACE is Tales After the Crusade by NorseThing. A journey throughout various medieval European countries, NorseThing takes us first to France, then after a brief tech-issue-shortened jaunt into Sicily, we also get a look into life in the Danish Court. Every single tale is rife with compelling characters, and their unique intriguing stories. With this second place finish, NorseThing is just one Writers' Study competition point short of a bronze medal!

In THIRD PLACE (Joint) is The Danish House of Hen, by Darkan, is a narrative-rich dive into the Danish court, told from the perspective of Prince Magnus, the second son of the king of Denmark. An excellent example of an AAR that focuses more on the story than on game mechanics, and paints a picture without relying on too many screenshots.
With this third place finish, Darkan has earned enough Writer's study competition points to also earn a bronze medal!

In THIRD PLACE (Joint) is Toutatis Favors the Brave, by Welsh Dragon. The Nervii tribe has held lands to the north of Gaul for many years. After a meeting with an old dying friend, the current leader may be about to change this course of action. Follow along as the Nervii work to expand their holdings against their fellow tribes, with the ever-present threat of the inexorable might of Rome always on the horizon. Also, be sure to congratulate Welsh Dragon as, like two of our other winners, he has also now earned a bronze competition medal!

The Writer's study staff thanks everyone who submitted their story, it was exciting to be able to run a full competition! Of course, thank you to all of the voters as well, and congratulations to all of our winners!

Congratulations to Maltacus, NorseThing and Welsh Dragon on their MAARC achievements. I'm humbled to be on the same podium as these talented writers (granted, the 3rd is a little crowded..."Dragon, move your foot").

Congratulations to Maltacus, NorseThing, Darkan and Welsh Dragon - all talented writers, indeed! More congratulations to those who won medals this time - and thanks to Axis for hosting the MAARC LXXIV and to all who voted!

I'm sorry about the overcrowded third-place podium. I asked the Writers' Study imps if they could design us a larger podium. They showed me a concept design for a new podium:-

(Matěj Čadil - Minas Ithil, own work, CC BY 2.5)

I'm not sure whether the imps understand what a 'podium' actually is! Possibly, judging by the way they're gathered around a screen, enthralled by An Orcs Tale, it's possible that their choice of concept art is a tribute to our first-place winner!

Meanwhile, every AAR writer with a qualifying AAR is invited to enter the 75th MAARC (MAARC LXXV)!
