    Default State religion

Bit of a noob question really but what the hey im a noob.

Country A is 70% Christian and 30% other. It's state religion has been Christianity for hundreds of years.

Over time Country A gradually comes down to 50% Christian 50% other.

Eventually Christians in Country A only account for 30% of the populaton with 10% other and 60% Zoroastrian (bet you thought i'd say Muslim)

Now my question is, would Country A have to change the state religion to the one in the majority?

If not, does it come down to a decision by the head of state (in England)?

Poland is 90% Catholic so state religion is Roman Catholicism, let say (in theory) since last 100 years 80% Poles convert to Orthodox/Protestant state religion might change for one of those. Change of state religion is only possible if natives convert themselves to other beliefs - no other way is acceptable.

In my opinion a state religion should not exist , politic and religion should be separated.
The state is here for public life, religion is a private choice and should only stay in the private area.State have to exist for citizens what ever religion they are.
A state have nothing to matter with religion as it have nothing to matter with what you do in your bed.

For Foytaz it is a matter of tradition and for me state religion should not exist.
I not see in what a state should have to support a religion or to say that a religion is better than an other .

I don't really see the real need for state religion either considering how personal religion is.

But what a way to subvert a nation eh?

Depends entirely on the country's constitution. Technically England does not have a state religion, but it is taken as such because the head of state is also head of the church of England.

hmm, I thought the UK did have a state religion, hence the Bishops in the House of Lords. I'm pretty sure the state religion of the UK is CoE as the UK doesn't have seperation of church and state like many countries.

As for the original question, historically the state religion hasn't always been the most practised religion of a country. In fact in many nations the state religion was only practised by the oligarchs. It really all depends with the state in question and their laws and constitutions.

Freedom from religion is just as much a basic human right as freedom of it.

Thanks mate, also sit down fat dog, ill have to look nto seperate countries then.

Just the idea of managing to change the population percentage enough to have a dramatic effect on the culture of a country is quite interesting.

Ok I see that I misused term "state religion" - I meant total number of followers of certain religion in the state. I strongly support the idea of: Separation of church and state , sorry my mistake.

Well the only sensible option is secularism, otherwise you are going to be forced into making decisions based on something which might not suit say 30% of the population which although a small number can mean a vast amount of people.
