Thread: [HS] Battle for Rome II - Parthia is OPEN

The summer sun brought more hope for the Dacian people's , as the war drums beat again high in the mountain sides calling the tribes back to war. This time many of the chieftains followed the call, as the word had spread of Deceneus's victory at Stara Zargora and many didn't what to miss out on the glory of taking on rome's legions , to test there mettle. Some where disappointed however, when the scattered empty fortified camp was found where Lucius Vorenus and his army group were supposed to have been based and the moved to the second fort. The second fort, was still occupied by the broken elements of the forces of Captain Publius old battlegroup who nursed there wounds and recovered the best they could, but as for the original inhabitants [those that made the fort] they had likewise departed. Scouts checked the tracks and found that they had marched ever northwards towards the old Dacian mountain ranges.

A clan war meeting was held at Stara Zargora to decide where the Dacian clans should place most of there strength as there where many directions and calls for the clans to attack. Some called for a force to be sent to the west , as Sirmium was undersiege , others to go north in pursuit of the romans moving towards the city of Tampa deep in the mountains, others wished for revenge to strike at Orestias, and many still wished to attack through the mountains range and attack the heart of Antony's cities on the coast, but there was not the manpower to do all such things at once. With the heat of wine within them , the dacian's chief's meeting became heated , as people wanted the fight to be in their area's and to protect there people. Finally after hearing all the options , Deceneus stood , his giant frame , casting a great shadow in the light of the fire in the tent which flickered in the varying light, as he held up one large hand for calm , and to hear his decision.

"Remember that Zalmoxis had only given us victory against the foe, the last season , not for this one", he said with a hint of caution , and the more boisterous chiefs began to settle down and became a little quieter.

".....And we still have much to do!. Rome's force's which are here is still a threat which needs to be ham-strung, before the great beast's feet can be cut away , bringing its carcass down...", he continued , taking a great gulp of the wine he had captured from the roman camp.

"Let us then concentrate on bringing down those foes , that have dared to invade our kingdom first!", shouted the warlord to great cheers of the assembled lords. Little did they know that Deceneus intelligence service had reported of a experienced legions racing along the coast road, to get themselves within a distance to possibility protect Orestias , should he threaten there, thus limiting his options.

The decision being made, Deceneus selected those who would pursue the romans moving north and those who would besiege the rest of the wounded romans who still held the last camp near Stara Zargora . Most of the Dacian chiefs had been selected to pursue the roman troops north , as they generally had the wealth to actually purchase horses and equip there own personal warriors making it a formidable armygroup to ride out. Extra troops would follow and perhaps troops from Tampa would sally out to help the attack on the romans if they received the pigeons flying north , with there messanges attached to there feet, if the Gods willed it. The venture was still a risk , but the risk would be limited to the clan chieftains as the old warlord, hoped to limit the damage , and hold his borders, for at best, they would prevail , with tales of glory , and at worst they would be beaten back , but the romans might be depleted in the effort leading to a better attack from the more regular troops that would follow after.

"Make haste! You glorious bastards !,... let us make haste! , lest the all the romans are killed before we have a chance to fight!Let not the men of Tampa have all the glory!", cried Deceneus in the next morning , as the large column of cavalry moved north in pursuit of the romans , in hope and haste, as the troops of the dacian's began to ride north and the soldiers chanted to pipe and drum to keep there spirits high.

I'm currently looking for players for these 2 factions as I can't keep on subbing them for the rest of the game. The game will resume shortly hopefully.

    Pompey up!
    https://www.sendspace.com/file/6m4p0f

The last bastions and land forces of pompey are now under siege and soon their resistance will be annihilated from Rome's sight. In the greeklands, thanks to the new spy network Octavianus built up Rome achieved great successes. Corinth fall to the legions of Octavianus without mounting any real resistance and Athens and Thebes followed with spies opening the gates for the mighty soldiers of Rome, while the low numbered defenders were routed to thefour winds. Sparta's gates were opened aswell, but only a smaller force lead by experienced equites went there to capture the settlement, without much losses.
The glorious days of Rome seems to come again, as out grip on the world is getting stronger.

The Winter of 32BC was particularly bitter and cold with severe snow falling in the north, and the warlords and chieftains who had tried to contain Lucuis Vorenus and his battlegroup , fell back, as the romans smashed the besieging cavalry and reinforcing group, as they continued their march ever northwards to besiege Tampa in the far mountainous north. The warlord and his chieftains licked there wounds , and recovered their men , around the town of Stara Zagora as slowly troops, travelled in the winter weather to join the warlord. In the bitter cold of the winter, the leaderless besiegers of the nearby fortified roman force which was still bottled up in the fort, burnt their own siege equipment , to keep themselves warm against the bitter winds and snow in the north that the gods punished them with abundance. Annoyed at the delay , the dacian leadership sent other men to direct the siege of the fort, moving those that had done such a deed elsewhere , whilst other troops moved to pursue Lucuis Vorenus to the north .

Hunters in the nearby forests and mountains reported that Julianas Libo had at last returned building another fort , on the road north of Orestias with a small garrison of five companies to hold the road, which seemed to be a diversion to distract , as a massive battlegroup sneaked though the forests on the coast, near the mountains moving to threaten or even besiege the City of Mesembria on the coastline for the next season. This perhaps seemed to be a greater threat than before, as this new battlegroup [perhaps with better troops withdrawn from Parthia] featured mainly hastati and even some praetorian guard.

Warriors were particularly in peril in these wild lands in the winter, as foul beasts moved in the cold ever searching for food, as there regular sources of nourishment had slowly dried up , as the snow covered all, making movement difficult , and farming impossible. Farmers and clans warriors kept close to there own settlements , unwilling to go far, and spent more time protecting there own lifestock , as wolves , bears and other predators stalked the farm and hillside animals .

Deceneus however, drunk his mulled wine over the campfire nursing a broken arm and headwound from the last engagement from the troops of Antony , knowing that he had been attacked now in the west, the north, and now finally with another group from the east, as the giant state of Antony's powerbase , more than six times the strength as the Dacian state, pushed another army-group against the bewildered state of Dacia. One of his fellow warrior's gave his warlord , some badly cooked bread , which the warlord proceeded to chew with his blackened teeth, mulling over his next move in the cold of the town , as he nursed his hatred of Rome and its roman troops.

The summer of 32BC was hot in more than just the summer heat, with antony's faction making three new forts , blocking dacian routes to helping the now besieged city of Mesembria. To respond to this action , the dacian's headed southward, risking a move to attack the weaken'd coastal cities , which had unloaded there forces, for the revitalised roman campaign on the eastern coastline. Orestias was selected as the city , which would face the dacian counterattack , with the dacians reutilizing old roman marching camps for their own use, blocking Julianas Libo's garrison troops from heading south to help-out at there southern base.

In the far north , Tampa had fallen to Lucuis Vorenus's battlegroup , but scouts heading northwards reported , his armygroup had vanished , just leaving a tiny garrison within the mountainous city. Dacian chiefs suspected that his army group was in the farthest point northeast , of the city , hiding in the forest, hoping to attack a dacian sieging army group . Thus alerted and suspicious of Lucuis vanishing army, the northern dacians moved more cautiously in there approach.

The isolated roman army group that had taken part in the assault last year , was still trapped within their fortification , and that threat had to be eliminated , to free up dacian units. Warlord Deceneus took command , his face somewhat healed from the scars that Lucuis's battlegroup had inflicted on the warchief, but his bodyguard had been restocked with valiant warriors , and he lead the attack on the beleaguered & left for dead roman armygroup.

The attack took part at night, and fire arrows were fired to weaken the roman garrison ,and to provide lighting, as the dacian rams were pushed towards the walls. Ultimately the roman garrison fought well , taking almost there own number in dacian casualties , but with the number of breachpoints in the walls of their defences, and with the number of aggressive dacian warriors , the result was never in doubt, with the romans being eliminated down to the last trooper.

On the brighter side, news from abroad, came , signalling that the Octavian faction had indeed managed to make equal progress in its overall image of power projection as to Antony's state and the dacians hoped to keep up there part of the struggle , keeping three and a half army groups tied down, from Antony's state.
