Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said that the country's differences with Greece over the Aegean Sea will be put to the National Security Council for discussion, indicating that there is “another option” for the government besides diplomacy for resolving the dispute.

“Are we going to solve this problem with Greece via diplomacy or are we going to go to court? For us there is another option. If the national assembly and the state considers that option as well, then it will be a unilateral decision,” the outspoken foreign minister told lawmakers during a briefing of the House budget committee.

So, what is the "other option" Mevlut refers to in his comment? Could he mean going to war with Greece? And what sort of war would that be? An all out conflict, or a land grab for one of the islands, possibly Kastellorizo, which is a thorn on the side of Turkey, as it cuts turkish EEZ short? What would the ramifications be of two "NATO allies" going to war? To my knowledge, this has never happened before.

There's plenty of nation dyads in the world that are having similar disputes.
I rarely ever read anything from people from Taiwan complaining about what some Chinese official said.

But what's different about the Aegean sea is that if my knowledge is correct the border dispute is very new. The islands were acknowledged to be Greek by the Turks for decades.

The "other option" the Turkish minister is talking about is probably force projection. Which tends to stay nonviolent as long as both sides keep cool.
We have seen that with regards to the Mediterranean oil deposits which by international law belongs to Cyprus, but which the Turks have prevented them (and the Italians) from exploiting through sheer military power. If Turkey decides to land some troops on an isolated island that is officially Greek, no one will stop them. Not even the Greeks themselves.

Infact only yesterday the leaders of the Turkish Opposition parties asked Erdogan to "complete the unification of Cyprus" to Turkey with a 3rd attack. (Attila 1 and 2 were in 1974).
Also the ship Barbaross with 4 warships as escort are in Cypriot waters -but far away from there that Americans drill today- chalenging the Greek Navy to interfear provoking a "warm incident" that could escalate realy easy. So far the Turkish submarines 214TN are not yet ready and the four 214HN ones have the advandage, But lets hope that they wont be nessesary to prove their worth.

Here is the speach of Mrs Meral Axener in the Turkish parliament that speaks about a global conspiracy against Turkey in Cyprus and "if nesesary Aise will go to Cyprus" again, that Cyprus is Turkish and will remain Turkish.
Aise goes to Cyprus was the code message to begin the invasion in Cyprus by the Turkish forces in 1974.
