Default (Moved to Vote) Reforming reputation...

It's become obvious in these past few weeks that our current reputation system does not work as it should. The ability for the general populace to hand out negative rep has caused some ill will and negativity that could easily be avoided.

I propose that negative reputation be removed, but rep kept at one point a pop. I feel that the "one rep point each" more accurately reflects the quality of one's posts, as people who consistently got rep from the higher-ups had a bit of "rep inflation," if you will.

    In conclusion:

Take the ability to give negative rep away from everyone besides staff.

That's really all I can think of right now, feel free to amend away.

If that were to happen, I would think that removing all reputation not given out by staff should be a natural extension. I think the system worked nicely when only staff could give it out, though.
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be used until they try and take it away.

Not sure we have to go that far. I appreciate it as an incentive...

No i don't agree with that, this place needs a bit of feel good factor and a simple fix would be to up the rep points and remove neg rep. (someone else can work out numbers,) it was a fun thing before people started taking it so seriously.

The whole carrot and stick thing leads to one conclusion, a sore ass.

I agree with Seneca that it might be the best solution to allow citizens only to give reputation.

Nevertheless, this should be moved/merged to Curia as this is not a formal bill.

I thought that general "propositions and measures" could be announced/discussed here, as there is nothing about reputation in the syntagma, but, of course, I'm not an expert on curial matters...

Evariste, I have done as you have here. You have presented an idea for development into legislation (we have people perfectly capable in drswing up suitable phrases within the Syntagma).

Evariste has taken inspiration from the Curia Main discussion, surely this is how it should be?

But let's not get bogged down with this element.

Ack, a cursory glance at the Curia main forum would have revealed your post.

Of course this has been inspiried by imb...

Anyway, it seems obvious that a number of civitates are unhappy about the current state of rep. I would have expected more response...

I believe that rep should become a feedback system. There should be no reputation score, because that leads to prejudgment and undue lusting after rep and so on. Instead, reputation should be a way for people to privately comment on what they think of someone's post. You'd just have the rep display in your profile, no actual number visible anywhere.

I like Sim's ideas. Far more altruistic and noble in nature. Of course it does remove the mentality associated with 'my rep's bigger than yours'

It's not a secret that I'm against the reputation in general, and cannot but agree with Simertical proposal to change reputation more as a feedback system.

The latest "incident" with some unseemly flames being made towards another member through the rep system prove that negative rep must be removed beyond the bounds of the normal members, that is without doubt.

    I do like Sim's idea.

I believe Evaristes original idea the better of those above. The neg rep system can only lead to discontentment and bruised pride, and so should be removed. However, the positive rep system is very effective and should be kept

Even better would be Simertical's idea to change reputation as a whole to feedback system

I have a personal theory that rep is pointless, in the end, as any more than a feedback system. As such I feel, personally, that we should make it just that, with no symbols/markers/call-em-what-you-will attached.

However, even if people disagree with me on this... negative rep really does need to go, due to its abuse.

Assuming that this feedback system is not anonymous, I support.

Anonymity only serves to provide certain individuals with a means to abuse such a system.
