Good day gentlemen.
Just have a few questions on the history, I know that vikings last name was their fathers, but where did/does the house name come from?
I'm not entirely sure whether Vikings did royal dynasties as we'd understand them in a later medieval context, at least not in the 800s. Most of the Viking era Norse dynasties I can recall - chiefly the Anglo-Danish Knytlings, Ui Imair/dynasty of Ivar the Boneless, and Danish Estridsens - seem to have just run with the name of their founding ancestor (or at least the one who put them on the map, so to speak), while the Swedish House of Munso used a place name, so you could probably roll with whichever custom's to your liking.
Disclaimer: Narf probably knows more about this sort of thing than I do
Narf was making some really really detailed Norse information that could come in handy. Just gotta get a hold of her!

Yeah will defer giving my character a "house" name til then haha.
A question for my character! Does anyone know how the child of a lord and a slave/concubine would be treated as opposed to the son of a husband and wife? I chose to portray as being raised just like any other child in my Biography, but I would imagine their lot was historically worse. Any information regarding this? Also, hello everyone! This is my first Roleplaying game and it looks like a lot of fun reading through the old Rome game hosted here.
Welcome to the forum!
In answer to your question, I don't think such a great stigma against bastard children existed as it did in the later medieval period after Christianity was adopted and marriage became a much more official process. I imagine it would depend on how the father considers the child; whether he chooses to treat them like the rest of his children or as more of a social inferior.
I will join as soon as I am able. Same with finishing informational content. I've been caught a bit off-guard irl, need to relocate, which is stressful.
Good to hear Narf.
So I can assume the starting events are all done, and we are a nation etc now.
I suppose so.
I need to compile or get a list of all the chiefs that participated in the initial attack so I can divide the loot. I guess we should hold a Thing now with everyone and from there on I'll make suggestions to people for lands to settle on.
So is 866AD year 1 or year 2? Like in regards to the starting 5000? Or are we onto the first income year?
Basically year one. Claim your starting income this year, as well as the 2000 from a standard holdfast.

Sweet, thought as much
I invite anyone who cares to have some RP to come to Ivar to propose marriage/raids/whatever
@stil You need to complete all buildings in that tier before upgrading to the next holdfast

Ah looks like the rules were just changed, will have to rework everything then.
Sucks though cause now we have to RP buildings that we don't actually want.
If only somebody told you sooner eh?
